Indianapolis, Ind., June21.—Sam Jones preached this morning in the Tabernacle Presbyterian church. The congregation began’assembling more than an hour be fore the time announced for the beginning of tlie services, and by 10 o'clock the ad joining streets were nlmost blockaded with vehicles, while all the seats in the audience room were tilled. The attendance was very largely composed of women, Among early comers there were many people from tlie country, who had driven in, some from a great distance, and one old farmer said he had come twenty miles with his family, starting at daylight gru-ss is growing In the cotton patches. One farmer said that Bibb county crops I would be damaged several thousand dol- i lars by the ruins. Commissioner Henderson said Monday I that the weather we are having will not hurt corn, but is seriously damaging oats and wheat. However, Col. Heading, of the agricultural department, docs not think the damage will he serious. Judge Henderson says corn and cotton are in a splendid condition. Crops in Richmond county are very much in the grass, and farmers find it an up-hill business to keep up with the proper work ing of their crops", and report a general ... - -r " a V"‘ Stands of flowers adorned the pulpit, and id u d< seated there were the choir and it dozen or more ministers of various denominations, while as many more were among the con gregation. Among the ministers was the Rev. Maxwell Gaddis, sr., of Dayton, O., a venerable preacher, tne author of a num ber of religious works—a man who lias been preaching continuously since 1835, fifty-one years, and who has been in at tendance upon-all tlie meetings here. Dr. Jeti'ery also occupied a seat oil the plat form. Mr. Jones preached for more than an hour, and hud force, originality and earnestness. None ot his sermons in this eitv lias excelled this. ms TEXT was, “Cast tbv burden upon the Dol'd and complaint of the unreliability of farm hands. Big meetings, picnics and railroad excursions will considerably lessen the pro duction of the coveted cotton bales and the much needed full corn crib. I'ooplti mill Events. Upward of 28,000 persons registered as visitors to Bunker Hill monument the past He will sustain thee; He will never sutler the righteous to be moved. He lias deliv ered my soul from tlie battle that was against me.” In the course of his sermon he decreed again t borrowing trouble, sav ing among other things; 1 have known women who were worried about their husbands every time they welit out of their sight. If I was that way, sis ter, I would tic a string around his neck, like some of you do with your poodle-dogs, and go with him. Thank God, i married a woman who has sense enough to believe that her husband has sense enougu to take care of himself. Sis ter, if you lm\e got a sober husband, you trust him: but if you have got a drunken husband 1 don’t blame you for being anx ious. A woman who marries a mail that lins got the smell of breath ON HIS WHISKY, [Liughteri that's what it is. tlie smell of breath on his whisky Renewed laiighter]- is the biggest fool on earth. Imaginary troubles have no existence only in the fancies of an abnormal mind. You need’nt go to the Lord with imaginary troubles. The Lord will not head off old John when he is nut running away, nn.l he won t shoot down a wolf until he sees him at the door Mr. Jones told A PATHETIC INCIDENT of n woman who had seen her husband am. three children drown one by one In for, her eyes, and she was powerless to help them, and was left alone in the world with iier little baby. Tlie child grew up to lie Hi years old ; and he milled : “Sh*. si lit liiiii of}' to college : off to college. That’s tlie epitome of the doom oftlious- nndsofboys, if I hud a pious, good bn. I could bank on I would send him to c( lege ; but if ! couldn’t trust him I never would send him there. There are smut mothers listening to me now. and what I am saying is wringing great drops of blood out of their hearts, tur they Inne sent tlieii boys away to college, pure in heart auu thought, only to return debauched and ruined. Ail unsantilled knowledge is dr liased, and i would rather have, my hoy in heaven among his A B (,'s than .'ii heii r adiug Greek". Do you know that the solution of the whole question is: Cast your burdens upon the L >rd. fSoinvi ime.s \vc gi : overloaded with troubles. See that frail ship out there, almost wrecked, ami with the water running over her bulwarks, too heavily loaded. When the Great Dastern, the most magnificent ship that ev< r swam, comes along and releases that little ship oi part of her burden, she is not sunk one- hundredth of an inch by the extra load. Brother, in this GREAT OCEAN OF SIN AND DEATH you will find thousands of people overbur dened, when the great ship of Zion coine- aloug with our dear Savior as captain. 11, will lift oft'tlieir burdens and help them to make their way in speed and salety to tin shores of eternal deliverance.’ Mr. Jones preached in this strain for some time, and concluded with ail earner', exhortation, and asked Dr. Jeffery to lean in prayer. The latter offered a most fer vent. earnest, and impressive prayer, ask- I ing for the blessing of God on the minister j One Indiana county iias paid •3177 in iiree years rs bounties on 15,888 wood- bucks' scalps.
