having come to this place. He stubbed a

the still-house. Oh, but it makes me sad
to think about it.”

“ 1—I think I have stumbled into the
wrong office,” explained a stranger, who
opened the door of a Cincinnati lawyer’s

“ Well, that depends. If yon are in busi

Have you been siek ? Is your convales-
ence slow and tedious ? Then try a bottle
of Westmoreland’s Calisaya Tonic, and
take as directed. It will soon make you
strong and well again.
Greenville, S. C., July 14,1884.
Messrs. Westmoreland Bros.—Gentle
men : I bought a bottle of your Caliaaya
Tonic some tune ago for my little daughter,
seven (7) years old, who was at that time
»uftering with general debility and loss of
appetite. Your Tonic was given as direct
ed, and she is now entirely well; has a
good appetite, sleeps well and has regained
her strength. Her complexion has re
sumed its usual rosy color. I don’t hesi
tate to recommend the Tonic to any one as
being, in my opinion, very superior.
Very respectfully,
M. S. Scruggs,
Book-keeper Camperdown Mills.
A gentleman in this city has used the
remedy for a fifteen months old child with
perfect success. The Tonic is just as bene
ficial to children as to grown people.

A Timely Jingle.
The chestnut bell is becoming wearisome,
but occasionally produces some singular
-effects. A eotemporary tells of an old tip
pler who was brought up in the police
court for drunkenness and gave the old ex
cuse, “had only two beers,” when some
joker near the door pulled the little gong
pinned to his vest. There were audible
smiles in the room, and a large handker
chief was at once applied to the nose of
the court.—Sjiringtiela Union.
This would be a comparatively happy
world if everybody knew the virtues ol
SMITH’S BILE BEANS as a family med
icine, and acted upon that knowledge.
One-half the misery of the world conies
from ailments which arise from a bad
stomach or a bad liver. Chiefest among
these are dyspepsia, biliousness, sick head
ache and neuralgia.
BILE BEANS will cure all of these, be
sides all miasmatic diseases. Dose: Ono

gan office seeker.”
The Verdict Unanimous.
W. D. Suit, druggist, Bippus, Ind., testi
fies: “lean recommend Electric Bitters as
the very best remedy. Every bottle sold
has given relief in every ease. One man
took six bottles, and was cured of rheuma
tism of 10 years' standing.” _ Abraham
Hare, druggist, Bellville, Ohio, affirms:
“The best selling medicine I have ever
handled in my 20 years’ experience, is
Electric Bitters.” Thousands oi others
have added their testimony, so_ that the
verdict is unanimous that Electric Bitters
do cure all diseases of the liver, kidneys or
blood. Only a half dollar a bottle at Bran

The gin fizz has, however, a strong call tor

Advice to Mothers.—Mrs. Winslow’s
Soothing Svrdp should always be used
when children are cutting teeth. It re
lieves the little sufferer at once; it produces
natural, quiet sleep by relieving the child
from pain, and the little cherub awakes as
“bright as a button.” It is very pleasant
to taste. It soothes the child, softens the
gums, allays all pain, relieves wind, regu
lates the bow-els and is the best known
remedy for diarrhoea, whether arising
from teething or other causes. Twenty-

A lady of our acquaintance has been in
quite feeble health for many years with
some complaint peculiar to the sex—be
came emaciated—lost her appetite—was
melancholy—sleepless—cross and fretful.
Many years’ suffering indicated that all
medicines were a failure. Some one sug

using two or three bottles an astonishing
change was observed, and a complete cure
was soon effected. eod&w
