Sacramento (Cal.) Bee. ,
A few weeks ajjo a ladv named Mrs
While wrote from an eastern state to \ s -
sietant Adjutant-General Perde Kewen if-r
a record of the enlistment of tier husband
as a volunteer in the war of the rebelli o..
She stated tliat at the breaking'out of i uii
war she and her husband resided in Cali
fornia. White enlisted and sent his wife
to the home of her parents in a west,- •
state. From that time up to the writin g
she had never heard of him. She believed
him numbered among the unknown dead
and desired to apply for a pension. The
assistant adjutant-general furnished the
information, and thought no more of the
matter until a week or so Inter he. received
a letter from Texas asking for precise
ly the same information. He
searched the record and found
there were no two enlistments under the
same name, and he then made out a dupli
cate of tiie record furnished to Mrs. White
and forwarded it to Texas, stating that the
original had been sent to Mrs. White. Tin-
result was that a few days ago Colonel
Kewen received a letter from New York
signed by Mr. and Mrs. White, which was
filled with thanks and blessings for having
brought together the long separated
couple. It was stated that White was
wounded in battle, and on recoverin'--
received news that his wife hud died. Hr
drifted about, finally to Texas, and old age
coming upon him, he decided to apply f ur
a pension. His wife hod come to the same
conclusion, and the two applications,
coming so close together, brought about
the reunion.
Advice to Mothers.—Mbs. Winslow’s
Soothing Syrup should always be used
when children are cutting teeth. It re
lieves the little sufferer at once; it produces
natural, quiet sleep by relieving the child
from pain, and the little cherub awakes as
“bright as a button.” It is very pleasant
to taste. It soothes the child, softens the
gums, allays all pain, relieves wind, regu
lutes the bowels and is the best known
remedy for diarrhoea, whether arising
from teething or other causes. Twenty-
five cents a bottle. jel7 d&wly

A New York paper says the phrase “1

origin in New England. It is undoubtedly

The Verdict Unanimous.
W, D. Suit, druggist, Bippus, Ind., testi
fies: “lean recommend Electric Bitters as
the very best remedy. Every bottle sold
has given relief in every ease. One man
took six bottles, and was cured of rheuma
tism of 10 years’ standing.” Abraham
Hare, druggist, Bellville, Ohio, affirms:
“The best selling medicine I have ever
handled in my 20 years’ experience, is
Electric Bitters.” Thousands of others
have added their testimony, so that the
verdict is unanimous that Electric Bitters
do cure all diseases of the liver, kidneys or
blood. Only a half dollar a bottle at Bran

(Apropos of the beautiful little poem, “Girl and
Angel, Too,” to whom St. Peter remarked :
And the gate wide open threw:
“ This is the age when every maid
Is girl and angel, too.”)
The next who came, was an ancient dame,
Who insisted she must go through
Peter demurred, but, in less than a week,
She was maid an angel, too.
Excitement In Texas.
Great excitement has been caused in the
vicinity of Paris, Texas, by the remarkable
recovery of Mr. J. E. Corley, who was so
helpless he could not turn in bed, or raise
his nead; everybody said he was dying of
consumption. A trial bottle of Dr. King’s
New Discovery was sent him. Finding re
lief, be bought a large bottle and a box of
Dr. King’s New Life Pills; by the time he
had taken two boxes of Pills and two bot
tles of the Discovery, he was well and had
gained in ilesh thirty-six pounds.

Naples* Macnironl.
You expect something wonderful in the
cooking of the ninccaroni, but you never
find it. They will tell you that no macca-
roni is like the Naples mnccaroni, either
because of some mysterious method of
manipulation or some unanalyzed quality
of the water, but the barbarous gourmet
from the northern forests or from Amer
ican wildernesses fails to detect the
alleged superiority.—Naples letter.
Worthy of a Trial.
A lady of our acquaintance has been in
quite feeble health for many years with
some complaint peculiar to the sex—be
came emaciated—lost her appetite—was
melancholy—sleepless—cross and fretful.
Many years’ suffering indicated that all
medicines were a failure. Some one sug-
S ested the use of the Simmons’ Iron Cor
ial, which could be applied locally. After
using two or three bottles an astonishing
change was observed, and a complete cure
was soon effected. eod&w

I have been using Allcock’s Porous
Plasters for four years, and think I could
not get along without them. For a long ,
time I was afflicted with a pain under my
right shoulder blade ; I also had considera

one on my chest. I kept changing them
every four days, and at the end of three
weeks was entirely cured,

Transplanting Skin from a >r«»g.
Skin from the back of a frog has been
used by Dr. O. Peterson for hastening the
healing of wounds. Grafts of the size or
the thumb nail were caused to adnere
firmly in two days, and in two days more
the pigmentation of the transplanted skin
had inmost disappeared. The resulting
cicatrice is of great softness and elasticity.
Some of the London hospitals are now be
ginning to employ frog’s skills as grafts m
place of other skin.—Boston Budget.
