Wahhinuton, October 6.—The list of
^nominees for conpfrcHH nt republican and
democratic conifreBsional hondquarters In
this city Ib substantially the same. Idee*
tions have already been held In Oregon,
Vermont nml Maine, nml the delegations in
the fiftieth congress will be the smile ns In
the present congress, In Alabama there
will be changes in the fifth and sixth dis
tricts, Messrs h.idler and Martin being
succeeded by Messrs. Cobb and Bankhead.
Arkansas will return the present: delega
tion. In California Messrs. McKenna and
Morrow are the only members of the pres
ent delegation renominated, Cojoruclo win
return Mr. Byrnes. In Connec ticut two of
the four members have been renominated.
Mr. Wait, the father oft in- lions, iu years,
and who has been n member five terms,
retires to private life. Delaware substi
tutes Mr. Pennington for Mr. Lore.
Florida will return the present
delegation. Ueorgia lias dropped Messrs.
Harris, Hammond and lfee.se. I Hindis
changes bill three of her representatives—
that is, in the third, twelfth and seven
teenth districts. In Indiana the new nom
inees are from the first, second, ninth and
thirteenth districts. Iowa drops Jerry
Murphy in the second district, and Kansas
Mr. Hn'nback In the sixth. These are the
only changes in these two delegations. In
Kentucky Mr. Robertson in the fourth,
and Col! Woolford in the eleventh both
democrats—aud Mr. Wadsworth, republi
can, are not renominated. Louisiana lues
three new nominees, returning Messrs.
King, St. Mart in and Irion. In Maryland
the. present delegation, except in the third
district , will be returned, though Mr. Find
lay has not yet been nominated in the
fo’urth district. Massachusetts lias thus
far held only three conventions, renomi
nating Messrs. Bice, Davis and Stone. Mr.
Patrick Collins, of Boston, will not again
be a candidate. The delegation will, with
this exception, probably be the same as at
present, though there is doubt whether
Mr. Lovering, democrat, from the Lynn
district, will again succeed.
In Michigan changes have been made
in the first, second, fifth sixth and seventh.
Tlie nomination lias not been made in the
tenth district. Minnesota changes the
first three districts, leaving Mr. Qilfiilan
nnd Mr. Nelson on the list. In Mississippi
Mr. Singleton, who was a member of the
thirty-third congress, in Pierce’s adminis
tration, retires. In the seventli district
General Charles K. Hooker, an old mem
ber, succeeds Mr. Barksdale. Missouri
changes only in the second and fourteenth
districts, and Nebraska in the first. Ne
vada lias renominated Mr. Washburn.
New Hampshire retains Messrs. Haynes
'“fl'liil Gallinger. New Jersey will lose Mr.
Green, who lias been nominated for gov
ernor. The delegation, with this excep
tion, will probably be the same. In New
York Messrs. Stahlnecker, Swinburne,
Hiscock and Nutting are the only nomi
nees fur re-election. Mr. Pindar has been
defeated in the twenty-fourth and Mr. Ses
sions in the thirty-fourth. Out of the
■^'thirty-four members only six have thus
far been named. North Carolina changes
in the first, third, fourth and sixths. Ohio
lius renominated all the present members
except two, with a third to be added, Mr.
Lefevre retiring. In Pennsylvania changes
have so fnr been made in eight districts.
Governor Curtain rotires, and Mr. Maish,
an old member, will succeed Mr. Swope.
Mr. Boyle, in the twenty-first district, is
to have the opposition of Mr. Rafferty,
who is said to be very anxious to come to
congress. Rhode Island bus not yet nomi
nated. In South Carolina Mr. Aiken re
tires on account of ill health, and nomin
ations have not been made in the fourth
anil fifth districts. In Tennessee Roderick
Random Butler succeeds Mr. Pettibone,
anil Senator Whitthorne is nominated in
the seventh. Changes also occur in the
Bixtb and eighth districts.
Texas drops Messrs. Jones, Throck
morton, Welborn and Miller. Virginia
transfers Mr. Daniel to ti.e senate. Mr.
Tucker and Mr. Barbour retire. Messrs.
Libby and Brady, the two republicans,
, .were defeated lor renominntion, as was
also Mr. Trigg, the democrat from Abing
don. West Virginia has made but one
thange, Mr. Gibson in the fourth district.
Wisconsin drops Mr. Bragg. Mr. Van
.JSelnU'.'k declines to be a candidate and Mr.
"Guenther was not renominated.
There have thus far been conventions
held in 160 of the 186 democratic districts
Hs represented in the present congress, nnd
66 have failed of renomination. In HO re
publican districts as now represented there
have been but 117 conventions and 20 have
failed of renomination. Of the 325 mem
bers of the forty-eighth congress 186 were
re elected. The Indications are that the
next congress will have 225 of the present
membership of the house.
At democratic headquarters the estima
ted gains are in the second anil sixth Cali

The republican congressional committee
have not made an estimate, hut explain
the sanguine views of their democratic
opponents on the ground that they occupy
the house of the late Zach Chandler, whose
motto was “Claim everything.”
