Friday one of Newport’s well k.iown citi
zens, Horace Carliso, who as an express-
man has had extensive dealing witn the
summer resident4, has been on trial in the
supreme court on a mo3t heinous charge
preferred afrainst him by his 18-year-old
daughter. The a cased was Indicted for
criminal ass mil bnd incest. Four of the
leading citizens, three of whom were ex
mayors, came forward and furnished bail
in the varn of §5009, and the accused was
allowed his liberty. There was a general
feeling that he was unjustly accused, and
