United States Marshal Lamar has ap
pointed Mr. Walter P. Corbett one of his

at Macon.
Frank White, of Hancock county, made
six heavy hales of cotton on the five acre
patches about his house. -Boll worms and
dry weather cut short the yield.
The western extension of the Amerieus,
Preston and Lumpkin railroad will, in
about a week, be ready for the rolling
stock all the way to Antioch, a distance of
forty-eight miles.
Mr. C. B. Moore, formerly of Brunswick,
is suing the Western Union telegraph com
pany for $10,000 damages for non-delivery
of thirteen telegrams on the 2tJth. of Sep
tember, 1855.
Mrs. A. J. Carver, of Terrell county,
killed a chicken n few days since that had
eighteen pins in its gizzard, some of them
bent neary double. The chicken was per
fectly healthy.
Dr. St rother, one of the most prominent
physicians in nbrtli Georgia, was found
dead in his horse lot, eight miles west of
Cumming Sunday morning. His health
had not been good for sometime.
Mr. Sloan Bruce was “shot at from am
bush near Yow’s mill, in Franklin county,
one night last week, while returning from
Toccoa. Three shots entered one side of
his face. The wound is not dangerous. It
is supposed that moonshiners mistook him
for a revenue officer or informer.
A little over a year ago Mr. E. G.Kraroer,
of Carroll county, missed a package or
S uano notes amounting to $800. The day
ley were missed they were spread on a
table in his office and when they could
not be found it was a mystery to all in the
office howthey disappeared.'Notlongsince
Mr. Kramer received a letter from Mon
roe, Ga., with the address written in good
style. Wondering who could be writing
to him, he opened the letter and the
contents there were the missing notes, all
in good shape.
Albany wn3 awakened at 3 o’clock Sun
day morning by the fire alarm, and it was
soon ascertained that the large frame ex
hibition building at the fair grounds, was
enveloped in flames. The structure burn
ed rapidly, and was consumed before the
fire department reached the scene. The
building was the property of the city, and
though in disuse at present, was valuable.
The estimate of the loss is S'WOO. No in
surance. Speculation is rife as to the origin
of the fire; hut the general opinion is that
it was the result of the carele’ssnes of some
negro gamblers, who frequently resorted
to the "building.
Mr. Newton J. Wheeler, living in Chero
kee county, lost his barn anil its contents
by fire lust Saturday night. This year’s
crop, consisting of about 2000 bushels of
corn, 12.000 bundles of fodder, several
wagon loads of shucks and a number of
bales of hay, besides oth.r prov. aider and
things which were stored away in the
barn, were totally destroyed with the barn.
He managed to get, his stock out, and that
was all that was saved. His loss amounts
to $2600. He had no insurance whatever.
The origin of the fire is unknown. Mr
Wheeler has lost two distilleries by fire
within the past few months.
$26,682, and the county tax, at seven and
one-half mills, is $40,J32.27. In 1881 the

1885, $5,050,000; 1880, $0,115,000.
Hinckley & Fuller, of Tampa, shipped
over $3500 worth of oranges last week, one
bill alone amounting to over $2300. They
report a much better market for Florida
oranges than for those grown in foreign
places. They made two shipments of 500
crates each of Florida mid Nnssau oranges
and the former reached their destination
in good condition while the others were
badly rotted.
At St Augustine Judge Biker has issued
a writ of mandamus for a recount of the
vote for state senator on Saturday, No
vember 20, upon a petition of Dr. John
Westcott, candidate upon the independent
democratic ticket. It is claimed that
many of the tickets arc defective, having
the words “Ninth senatorial district” in
stead of "Thirty-first district,” which com-
pvi- 63 St. Johns county. This and other
defects may change the result in that,
county, as the majority of the legislative
ticket is small.

S. S. S. vs. POTASH.
I have had blood poison for ten years. T know I have taken one hundred bottles of
iodide of potash in that time,’but it did me no good. Last summer my face, neck, body
nud limbs were covered with sores, and I could scarcely use my arms on account of rheu
matism in my shoulders. I took S. S. S., and it has done me more good than all other medi
cines I have taken. My face, body and nock arc perfectly clear and clean, and my rheu
matism is entirely gone. 1 weighed 116 pounds when I began the medicine, and I now weigh
152 pounds. My first bottle helped me greatly, and gave me an appetite like a strong uum.
I would not be without S. S. S. for several times its weight in gold.
