N«w» from the Three States Told Brief Paragraphs. a Good lBfCTt»»»t la Farm Laada—Contracts Awarded fbr Dredging Mobile Bajr—A l,ockj Bone Drover la Florida, Etc. Albany had three incendiary flres Tues day night. Rev. Sam Jones is expected to lecture during conference at Augusta. A Are destroyed a block of buildings in Hawklnsvllle Wednesday morning. During the month of November 113 899 bales of cotton were cleared from Savan nah for foreign ports. Work on the new Baptist church at Mil- ledgeville will commence at once, and when completed the church will cost The number of vessels entering the port of Savannah during the month was the greatest in her history, aggregating 109, of 111,942 tonnage. Mr. R. Toombs DuBose has become connected with the Washington Chronicle as associate editor. He will be a splendid addition to Georgia journalism. The contract has been awarded to Mr McGintv to build a |2000 Baptist church at Winterville, and to Mr. Mcltee to erect a Methodist church at the same place. Jim Lowe, of Dooly county, up to last week, was the head of an interesting family of nine children. Now the number is twelve, his wife having presented him with three bouncing boys, all at one time. Colonel Roan,of Pairburn, took a prisoner i j to the jury room to consult about the defense. The prisoner jumped through the window, and left the lawyer to explain the case to the court. Mr. Sam Rhodes, of Wilkes, runs seven plows and will make an average of sixteen bales to the plow, 112 in all. Two of his S lows will make forty-nine bales. In ad it ion to this he makes 900 bushels of corn. The seal now in use in the clerk’s office in Wajfon has been doing service there sixty-seven years, and yet makes its im pression as clear-cut as if it were fresh from the die. The lettering is of au ex tremely plain style. Mr. W. N. Mercier and Mr. J. P. Verde- rey, of Augusta, bought the Magruder mine and 900 acres of land at Wilkes court house last spring for $3000. Tuesday last Mr. Mereier was offered $5000 for his half interest in the property. The offer was promptly declined. Ed. Dyson, colored, of Terrell county, convicted in 1883 of assault upon a woman, and sent to the Dade coal mines, has been pardoned by the governor. The aggrieved woman, on whose testimony he was con- j victed, uow confesses that she was not sure of the identity of the negro, and ! swore ns she did from fear of her husband, j When Mr. W. P. Doerflinger, of Bruns- ! wick, vas thirteen years old he broke off the point of a jeweler’s “rat tail” file in : one of his finger joints. Last Sunday, ! twenty-seven years afterward, it pained j him for tho first time. So, turning sur- | geon, he split open his finger, and with j the aid of Mr. Ed Bingham, took out the file point. A bottle of liquor was an important factor in settling a criminal case at tho last Walnut Grove court. One man had drawn a pistol on another in the latter’s house and a prosecution followed. When the trial came on the pistol fiend treated the prosecutor a time or two, they made the thing up, paid half the costs each and ■topped it. They were really good friends all the while, and the whisky soothed the little enmity and made everything serene. PAILY ENQUIRER - SUN, COLUMBUS, GEORGIA, FRIDAY MORNING, DECEMBER 3, 1880.
