A TRIP UP THE GEORGIA MIDLAND. LoU Selling nt n Lively Rate at the Town of Waverly llall—A Chatty Old Gentleman from the Rural District—Kindness to the Newspaper Wanderer—The Georgia Midland, Etc. WAVEtti.Y Hall, Ga., December 15.-A few minutes afier 9 o’clock this morning the hoarse whistle of the big engine on the Georgia Mid land railroad sounded, and in a few minutes young society man who is couuectei with a j three coaches, very comfortably filled with pas. clothing house on Broad street, had just married 1 1 * beautiful young Columbus widow. It is so re ported in Lumpkin. Tho gentloman who re ceived the letter answered it, saying : “Ho hasn’t done so yet; but all he wants is a little more lime.” Married Yesterday. Judge F. M. Brooks and Miss Fannio Davidson j sengers, started on tho journey to Waverly Hall. We bowled merrily along at a fair rato of speed, and the trip was made with but few incidents worthy of note. A few miles out from Columbus an elderly looking gentleman boarded the train, and he assured the passengers in the coach that “this was the first time he ever rid over this part of the were married yesterday afternoon at her homo ! country on a railroad.” Everybody felt satisfied In Muscogco county. Rev. Walker Lewis ofttci | that he was speaking truthfully, but at the next place where a passenger wa9 taken up he again remarked that “this wits the first time he ever rid over this part of the country on tho railroad.” No dissenting voice wan beard, but he continued to proclaim the fact until the crowd would have willingly built a railroad to any point he might name if he had only ex pressed a desire for it. Immediately after our ar rival the BALE OP LOTS BEGAN. Mr. L. G. Richards, of Talbottou, was master of ceremonies. Blading was very lively, and the first lot sold brought $300. It was bought by Mr.I> P. Dozier, of Columbus. Twelve quarter lots, suitable for store lots, were sold, tho lowest price being $14.60, ranging from that price upward, ac. cording to desirability of location. Six or eight residence Jots were sold, bringing from $50 to $450 each. Most of the purchases were made by Columbus geiitlemen, among whom were Messrs. Frazer A Dozier, O. S. Jordan, J. Kyle NuokolU, E. G. Willingham, Phil Hudson, H. J. Thornton and M. T. Lynn. Mr. J E. Appier, of Columbus, lias purchased a handsome tract, and we we e informed would soon erect u splendid residence for himself. This purchusc was made some time since. From present indications Waverly Hall will soon be a very flourishing little Iowa. It is well situated, ia a productive part of the country, and with the facilities afforded by the Georgia Mid land will build up very rapidly. It is in a high, healthful region, and the climate is bracing and pleasant. Messrs. I. H. Pitts A Sous will build a hand- boiuh new store adjoining the proposed depot. Active preparations are being made for the im mediate erection of suitable buildings for depot purposes. TIlUaUOUUIA MIDLAND is, without a doubt, one of the most substantially built railroads in the wholo country. The tres tles are massive and strong, and built after the most approved plans. The earthwork is well done, as is also the tvacklnying, and notwith standing the newness of the road, the cars glide almost as smoothly along as though the entire lino was rock ballasted. Mr M. E. Gray, the able superintendent of the construction company, was in charge of our train, and was very watchful and attentive. Mr. Gray is an experienced rail roader, and well deserves his enviable position. He has been an earnest worker in behalf of the road since its inception. APPRECIATED HOSPITALITY. J There being no hotel facilities at Waverly Hall, your correspondent would have been minus dinner but for the kindness of that hospitable gentleman, Mr. I. H. Pitts. At his invitation Messrs. Gray, O. 8. Jordau, Captain English and myself repaired to the Pitts mansion and partook of a very bountiftil spread of dinner, for which, and iu behalf of the other gentlemen as well, I return hearty thanks. BIDR NOTES. Railroad facilities have been tho subject of almost the fondest dreams of tho people along the line, and now that it is here iu their midst they are jubilant. Quite a number of bales of cotton are lying along tho road awaiting transportation to Colum bus. Eller.fiie proposes to have a sale of lots some time during the coming week. L. M. H. ated. Tho groom is tho popular ordinary of this oounty, and there 1r no man in Columbus that is more highly esteemed and respected. The bride Is a daughter of Mr. Larkin Davidson, and is a lady of great worth and many personal charms and noble traits of character. It is needless to say that everybody in Muscogee oounty wishes for the judge and his fair bride a iUfe of unbounded peace and prosperity. Ilupplly Mated. It is seldom that we chronicle a marriage with more pleasure than thnt which occurred at the residence o Mr. W. 8. Lloyd on Fourth avenue last night. Tho groom was Mr. J. A. Mr. llarry was formerly of Rome, but at pres ent he is employed ut the Columbus Iron Works, and besides being a most excellent machinist, he is a genial and worthy young gentleman.
