Rev. Mr. McClesky was transferred by
r,JT. fer r ce fr °™ the Waynesboro
church to the presiding eldership of the
8an d ersyille circuit. The opposition to
this change was so strong that the bishop
yielded to the wishes of the people, and
the recent appointments have been re-
voked, and Waynesboro is happy in claim
ing Mr. McClesky as her own at least for
another year.
At Quitman, Friday, E. A. Groover,
cashier of the banking house of Clayton,
Groover & Co., while out collecting, mis
laid an express package containing $3000.
The package was unopened and addressed
to the above firm from W. W. Gordon &
Co., of Savannah, Ga. Five hundred dollars
and no questions asked has been offered as
a reward for its return. Up to Saturday no
trace of it had been discovered.
Captain William C. Yancey, ordinary of
Troup county, while on his way home at
7:30 Tuesday night, was knocked down by
some unknown person. The lick was a
very severe one, rendering him almost
senseless. His hallowing at the party at
tracted the attention of Mr. E. 11. Carey,
who went to his relief. After being knock
ed down he was struck another blow. The
captain pulled out his knife and was Qxing
to defend himself. Robbery was the cause
as he is a man of means. From the track
it is supposed to be a white man.
A terrible murder is reported from Rog- $
ers’s Station, Bartow county, where May ! Li
Simmons, a colored girl of sixteen, chop- p
artesian wells at Key West. It is proposed
to bore down to the depth of fifteen hun
dred feet, when It is believed that plenty
of water can be obtained.
A young boy named Harry Thompson
day fell, and the ear wheels passed over his
ankle, dislocating it and fracturing the
ankle bone. The wound is a very danger
ous one. It was thought by the surgeons
that amputation wonla be necessary.
At Sanford the daily weather bulletins
will be discontinued on December 21, on
account of the appropriation being insuffi
cient to continue them. Cold wave warn
ings, however, will be sent when necessa
ry. The daily weather bulletins, asposted
and transmitted free by the South Florida
Telegraph company to stations along
their line have been a great benefit to
orange and vegetable growers, and it is a
deplorable fact, says tne Argus, that con
gress cut down the estimates made by the
weather bureau.
A Family Blessing.
Simmons’ Liver Regulator—the favorite
home remedy—is entirely vegetable, and is
the purest and best family medicine that
is compounded. No error to be feared In
administering, no injury from exposure
after taking, no loss of time. It is the best
preventive medicine, and safe to take, no
matter what the sickness may prove to be,
and in any ordinary disease will effect a
speedy cure. eod,SE&w
When Lord (Tire Was at Whist.
Lord Clive was on one occasion playing
whist when he received a letter from
Major Ford, commanding a field force,
conveying important intelligence. Lord
Clive did not interrupt his game, but mere

them at once. I will send you the order in
council to-morrow.”—The Fortnightly
