by a sharpshooter. Gen. Tracy was re
garded as one of the hen and most efficient
officers in the service. Ho originally
went out ns a captain of a company in the
4th Alabama regimont.
Major Pickering, of the same regiment,
was also killed, together with Ldoulcuant
Col, PettUS, of the 2dih Alabama regi
ment.
Major Hurley, of tho Gist Alabama
regiment, is supposed to have been mor
tally wounded, and to havo fallen int**
