Richmond, April 28. This afternoon
has boon one of funeral-;. In some of tho
churches throe or four bodios wero boforo

mo lern architecture, which placed in
jeopardy the lives of eiti/.ona. In nearly
every principal street of the city fun oral
processions were moving to tho cemoto-
ries. All business was suspondod. Tho

paper offices were lmng in mourning. The
(lags on the Capitol, Customhouse and nil
public buildings, and on all the vessels in
tho liiuImr, were at lialf mast. Tho rail
road trains coming into tho city wero cov
ered with emblems of mourning, and
many of tho trucks and cars throughout,
tho streets were also so covered. At all
the funerals tho old organizations to which
the doconsed wero attached turned out.
At one of them tlio State Grand Division
of Sons of Temperance, now in session
here, followed tho corpses to tho come-
lory.
At a mass meeting of the citizens to
day, as mentioned at noon, the following
resolutions were adopted :
Resolved, That wo mourn with pro
found sorrow tho loss which our Ktutcand
our city has sufl’ored ill the death of hor
citizens; that wo offer, with saddunod
hearts and tearful eyes, our profound
sympathy to tho suffering, and fervently
pray Dint as their days of affliction, so
may their strength be.
2d. That Wednesday next, tho 1th of
May. bo set apart as a day of humiliation
and prayer ami religious service, on which
day tho people of this city aro requested
to assemble in thoir respective places of
public worship at such hours as may bo
designated by tho clergy, who are rc-

Twelve fueruls of the victims of the
disaster took place to-day, including E.
M. Schofidd, city assessor, and brother

A telegram was received by the Secre
tary of Stuto, from Mayor Fox of Phila
delphia, stutiug that a subscription was
being raised, and Mr. Childers, of tlm
Public Aei/fjtr, bad beaded it with $1,000.
A merchant of Chicago, has also advis
ed a committee to draw on him for nec
essary funds.
A delegation of citizous from Peters
burg arrived this morning to attend tlio
obsequies of the victims.
