We, tho Grand Jurors, chosen for the
Octoiler Term of Harris Boperior Court,
1871, beg leave to submit the following
Presentments:
We have caused to lie examined the
Books end Public ltecords of the County
Officers, and tho Public Buildings of the
county. We aro pleased to atate that tho
Hooka of the Clerk of tho Huporinr Court
sod the Ordiuary are kept with noatuesa,
aud so far aa our uiveatigation exteuded,
with correctness.
We find the Court House in good re
pair, with the exception of the blinds,
aome of which need lathes. We Also find
that there is a great deficiency of seat a iu
the court room for the comfort of
(be court, aa well aa for the cane and com
fort of spectators. We respectfully and
earnestly recommend that the atteution of
the proper authorities be called to the
furnishing of seats for the court room ;
also that the railing around the bur tie
lowered, end that the seats for the Jurora
•■well as the chair for the Judge, he
cushioned.
The Jail, which haa heretofore been
unsafe, has recently undergone repairs,
and 4a now oonaiderod safe as a prison.
We fiud in the hands of the County
Treasurer, reported by that otfiucr, a bal
ance, due of ffff.82 of county funds.
Also, hv examination of the ConiiniHsiun.
era of ftoads and Kevenue, wo find that
the county will be indebted by the close
of the year $7,ft00.00, which will Include
all indoblednoaa of the county, iududiiig
expenses of District Court, which will
amount to *1.000 ini |M*r annum in gold.
There has been a sufficient tax levied to
|iay the whole indebteduesa, and nil
county orders will be cashed by the end
of the year.
We are proud to report that the Pulilio
Hoads of the county, though not in aa
C ollect repair aa is desirable* are* with
nt few exceptions, iu good order. Aud
It ia a matter of pleasure for thi* body to
