result (we suppose) of taking up tire with

This oollege was the pride of our towu

have determined, eveu around its burning
remains, to build agaiu one as good, and
we hope far superior to the old oue. The

This oollege was completed about 18M,
and has been in oonetant nee since. The

Parties furnishing supplies and material
to tb* road under the late administration,
not only charged too and three prices for
the same, but in many instances present
ed fictitious accounts for Urge smounts
aud collected the money on them! Blod
gett and his gang were not content with
stealing the net earnings of the rosd, but
they incurred a heavy debt, and appro
priated to their own use the money thns
raised, us well as the material represented
by the dobt.
ONK OF BLODGETTS LITTLE PECULIARITIES.
There was another way in which these
per ties appropriated large sums: Through
freights on goods from Nashville,. *t.
Louis, Louisville and Cincinnati, to At
lanta and points further couth, were col
lected by the Htmte Itoud. These freights
were paid promptly by the Georgia, end
th* Macon k Western, Atlsuta A West
Point, aud other roads to the Htate Hoad
ofUcial*. iusUmd of remitting tho money
thus collected, Blodgett was in the habit
of drawiug on Henry Clews k Co. in fa
vor of the roads north of this, and divi
ding the money collected for freights be
tween himself and other 8t<*teaud railway
officials! Many of these drafts, it is soid,
are still held by Clows against the Htate.
A CONUNDRUM FOR CLEWS.
The question arises—how came Henry
Clews A Co. to make these loans to Blod
gett? Neither he nor the Governor had
n right to borrow mouey for the road, in
the absence of legislation to that offect.
These advances were really loans. Whut
collaterals had Claws k Co. to secure thorn
for the advances? The Committee ou
the Management of the Htate llo;»d will
doubtless be prepared to answer this
question in due time.
RTAUTLUm DEVELOPMENTS.
Homs startling developments are coming
to light, the full particulars of which it
would be premature to give at this time.
The Constitution provides that the Gen
eral Assembly shall pass no law granting
or loaning the credit of the Htate to aid
uny railroad company ill which there is
not already an equal amount invested by
private persons. It has transpired, how
ever, that when the Htate endorsed the
bonds of the Brunswick k Albany Bail
road, not oue cent had been invested in
the enterprise by private indiviluuD.
llenry Clews k Co. knew of this fact, not
ouly by reason of the official connection
of a member of the firm with the road,
but because they were informed of tho
SHino. It has transpired, also, that every
statement contained in the celebrated
preamble to tho original act, granting
Htate aid to tho road, was known to ail
tho partius in iutoroht to be untrue, it
now anpeurs that the irou taken from the
track by the Confederate authorities was
paid for in full.
A CURIOUS FACT.
But the most onrious fact in this con
nection is tho following : The act of Oc-

LASTING LOVELINESS.-Twenty
yoars ago, wheu paint, pearl powder aud
enamel were ruining the complexions and
destroying the health of women of faah-
iou, Hagan's Maonnlia Balm was brought
out as a pure botanical cosmetic, guaran
teed to restore bloom and beauty to the
akin. From that time to the present it
haa boon continually rising in public esti

of producing an artificial, uietalio surface,
like tho deadly enamels, or wiltiug the

keeps the skin as soft as velvet, renders
it an smooth and gloany as satin, and im
parts to it that delicate, rosy tinge, which
is the beau ideal of complexional loveli
ness. This exquisite ohromantio effect
is not transient. By applying the Balm
daily it may be prolonged from youth to
age. A lady who purchased tho first bot

THE CELEBRATED
Milburn Plantation Wagon.
I AM AGENT for the Manufacturers of the celebrated Milburn Plantation Wagon,
both Thimble Skein and lion Axle. From experience, I consider these Wagons
equally as aervteable as any other Plantation Wagon in market, and at much lower
