Mr. William Kildree reports one of the

twenty utiles above UolumbUH, near Mo-
ohunicHvillo, Leo county, Ala.
A party ol’ two men and three young
Indies were crossing tho rjver in a butfouu.
One of the survivors Htsles that ono of
the ladies arose in tho boat to Noaru Home
ducks, when tho vessel capsized uud the
entire party were precipitated into the
water. The day was very cold, must have
lieeti intensely so ou the river. Tho throe
young ladies were drowned. Their nnines
un* MissoH Busan und Elizabeth Teel, and
Josio Pike. The latter was formerly n
resident of this city. Her body was re
covered lute Sunday night. Tho other
two bodies had not been discovered when
our informant lclt tho locality Mouday
in*-ruing.
It was with tho utmost difficulty the
two men were saved. Ono would havo
been drew iu d also, had it not boon for
the assistance rendered by a person ou
shore who happened to he near the scene
of the terrible aocideut. Thu names of
tho lueu me Churltou Caver uud Cicero

The sad alTnir has cast a gloom over the
cuttle community. Tho grief and con
st ornation of ucur relatives was heart
rending. Vigilant eff orts wore still being
made to scenic the bodies of tho ladies
that wore still in the stream, uud some
hopes were entertained of success.—Nun

horses are held iu such high estimation
that the method of making n spirited
trotter shackle like a boat in a chop sea is
reduced to a science. To moke them
rack easily a ring of lead, covered with
leather, is put round each hoof; u cord
from each weight ascends and ia fastened
to the saddle, trout nud rear; next a strap
runs horizontally from tho foro to the
hind loot on both sides. Being rathor
short, it is impossible to make a long
step. Hostruint compels tho animal to
practice a new gait to progres* at all. As
tioou as n habit is established of going

is fully uud pouuHUenUy established.

only from hiH recent private utterances,
