A noth eu Importation.—We observed that those enterprising dealers, Messrs. 8. Peyser tfcCo., received another large stork of goods yes terday. The motto of these gentlemen appears to be “a nimble sixpence Is better than a slow shil- lipg," and they are conducting their business on that principle. We advise our lady ready readers to have their /wrf monies well lined when they visit this establishment, for the attractions are great. tf Provost Marshal Items.—Only three persons were sent to jail by thc*provost marshal yesterday —two for some complicity in stealing, and the oth er for some offense we did not Irani. Another man, whose name, was not recorded, was lined ten dollars for striking a darkey on the bead with a brick without sufficient provocation. Since Captain Morrow lias adopted tli'c plan of working the negroe on the streets until the}- get other work, the streets are kept pretty elear of idlers. The Captain assists them in finding em ployment, and lias succeeded in fiudiug jobs for a large number. Hurry up, gentlemen; a very small expenditure in front of yonrsaveral establishments will coutrih. utelgreatly to the appearance of your business frontispieces, andalao to the comfort of those who (rcqnent Cherry street, to give you their custom. A hint, etc. ’ i jgy 9. T. Coleman, Esq., late of Koss A Cole man will open at Manufacture's Bank building, Oct. 1st, a large and varied assortment of fall goods for ladies’ and gentlemen’s wear. Moat of the goods were purchased by Mr. J. B. Rosa, a gentle man of well known experience in t be business. As will be seen from advertisement, Mr. Coleman pledges himself ta serve the ladies, provide for their comfort and convenience, if they will bnl “stick” to him in the fntnre as they have done in the past. 13jf-Ladies, gents’ and misses’ hats, a full and fashionable assortment, just received at 9. Peyser A Co.’s. t tf J5Y" Oar old friend A. G. P. Harris, Esq., late of Harris A Dense, has just returned from the North after buying an extensive stock, and fine assortingt of goods and wares generally. He has selected the large and commodious store room next to J. B. Ross & Son’s, on Cherry street. The attention of country merchants, particularly, is invited to Ids selection. To tlio who purchase by the qnantity he will offer superior Inducements, lie expects Ids goods to arrive during the coming week, and be ready for sale by the 1st of October. Dress Trimmings.—'The ladies will fine a beau tiful stock of laces, insertion- and drees trimmings of every description, of the most fashionable styles at 9. Peyser A Co.’s. tf Early yesterday morning a mule attached to a baggy, driven by a negro boy, who was carrying Ids mistress to market, ran away on Tided street The boy rouid not control the animal, when the lady reined him up against a fence, but the sudden stoppage caused both occupants of the buggy tor be thrown to the ground. Fortunately no serious* injury was sustained. Keep Warm.—9. Peyser & Co. are now offering a large lot of tine bed blankets, white and colored, tf To Blsixess MfiN.—W« again call attention of business men to oifr facilities for executing every description of Jolt Work. Bill heads, cheeks, re ceipts, cards, etc., etc., will be supplied without delay, and none hut the best material will be used. Orders solicited, and will lie filled promptly. Fall asp Winter Clothing.—S. Peyser & Co. have just received a large assortment. tf % A young woman, beastly drauk, attracted considerable attention on Mulberry street, at a late hour last night, liy her profanity and laid conduct generally. This spectable seemed to amuse many, who were apparently enjoying this exhibition of degradation. No Bucket.—The latest style of corsets, band kerchiefs, hosiery, artificial flowers, and ribbons, can lie inspected at the store of 9. Peyser A Co. tf Weekly Report of the Macon Market. Daily Telegka.hu Office, i Macon, Go., Sept. 23, 1865. f Cotton.—There lias been a decidedly better feel ing in the cotton market this week, than for a month past, and dealers tell us that if it were not for llie restrictions upon the transactions in cotton, consequent upon the endeavors of the government to secure all that had been subscribed to tbe Con federate cotton loau, aud all in tbe hands of par ties against whom tbe late C. S. goi eminent had claims which have not been settled, there would probably be more life and vigor in *.he market tor some time than was usual before Ibis staple was closed to tbe trade by the operations of the war.— Pnrehasers sir plentiful, when it is made clearthat a lot is free from the restrictions; and-doubtless a- high a- I hirty-two cents could bo obtained for a fine middling lot thns clear. Tile highest figures we have heard of for the week, is. 30 cents. The standard or average price brought during the week may lie quoted at an advance of one cent on last week—twenty-nine cents. • We heard of blit one small sale at les- than this. Hatters do not evince much disposition to sell at present ruling figures —doubtless on account of the steady advance in the prices of all cotton fabrics iu the northern markets. The amount brought in from the coun try was not as large as last week, nor has quite so much been shipped down the river; but larger quantities, were shipped by railroad—by way of At lanta and Angusta—than for two or three weeks.—■ Two or three extensive lota have been brought up the Southwestern roar], and are being stored by the parties shipping them to this point. . The supply of money on deposit to purchase cot ton is latge, but b tli buyers nnd owners are cau tious in tlieir oper-.tions—tbe first fearing tlie ti tles of holders, and tlie luiter thinking llie prices in the Eastern markets warrant better figures than are current. The lust need money, but are satis fied to dispose of small lota, to snpply personal necessities. Several owners have shipped on per-, sonal account, their whole stock after receiving small advances. Tbe recent great reduction in freight charges, warrants a greater advance in price than bus yet taken place; lint this change most come. Tiie transportation rnin)>aiiies have voluntarily reduced their charges to rates that afford a fair profit, and hnyers must he satisfied Tift a reasonable profit'. Owners will' soon find out they can make shipments without payiug commissions, ami realize all the N. Y. market will afford, and they will do so rattier than allow all the profits toga into tlic .pockets of mid dle men. A leading planter informs us the ques tion of doing so is being .considered by many ol his acquaintances. “ A word to tbe .wise,” etc. Monetary.—We have to report qnite a change in the local gold market. Our last weekly state ment noticed considerable demand and active sales; this week there lias been but little inquiry and Very' few sales. Holders in Macon ask 15c. premium—a shade above the New York quotations—hot find few buyers. There have been no changes in the-figures for State currency and tiank notes. But. few are offer ing, aud these are disposed of at old prices. The demand for money seems to increase. The amount of paper offered, having a short time to run, the proceeds to In- used in local business*, lias been large, and but a small |Hirlion was taken. The fact t hat too many are disposed to overreach the bounds of priidenee, as well as tlieir own means, is generally recognised; and capitalists are stiaping their business accordingly. Dry Goods.—The trade hi dry goods generally,- for the week, has been more active than we were able ro report last week, uud although, with the exception of one or two days, the weather has not been sucb as to render a drawing off of linen nee-* essary, the disposition to prepare for. winter is' - fiist gaining ground. Large numbers of country merchants have been preparing themselves with stocks, and most transactions in dry goods for lint week have been of a wholesale nature Those of our retail dealers whose stocks are not already complete, arc getting in extensive supplies, and’ the utmost confidence prevails in alt quarters, that with the opening of the fail trade, business will justify their extensive outlays. Dealers an; in up hurry to get rid of their cotton goods, on account of tlie continued advaneefin this eln.s of goods at the North. We have been showu a letter to i city merchant, from one of the most extensivj dry goods house, in New York, iu which it is said that “all Kinds ol domestic goods, prints^’ etc., ure advancing and getting more scarce; but foreign goodsan- (rafts upslOnabta.” Millinery Goods.—A pretty brisk trade Iras heeq kept qp throughout the week iu this obis-, of merchandise, both wholesale and retail; although tbe stock iu the market does not yet admit of any very extensive wholesale operations. The assort ment of millinery goods is complete, aud the quantity generally good. The same remarks will applyto ribbons, trimmings of every description, sad everything pertaining in any way to female ap parel. Boots and Shoes.—Tho trade iu bools and shoes is yet dpll, which may be accounted for by the (acttliat the market is principally stocked with a heavy article man ifaeturcd only for the North era market. The supply will doubtless soon' lie exhausted when the winter sets in. There Inn* been no change in prices in tills market, since last week. 1 Groceries.—Tile grooery market has been uuu- snaily brisk for the last three days of the week.— Larger quanties of family groceries were disposed of to country mcrcliants tlian during any previons week, lately. Tlie supply in this market with ibe exception of some few ortieles is fully equal to tlie demand. The Crrr Market.—For the past two days of the week tin; city market was uot well supplied with anything but fresh meats, sweet potatoes, and some classes of fruit. We account for this defi ciency hy tbe fact that most of the provision stores entertained the idea that lliey were not to he con trolled by the restrictions of prices at the market, and eoodrqaehtlyVepe willing to pay m little more than tlie market price to procure supplies; nnd the dernand for certain articles enabled them to obtain tlieir own prices. For these reasons we do not believe there was a chicken or a pound of butter offered at the market house on Monday nr Tuesday. Valuable Plantation Tor Sale.
