BEPOKTED SPECIALLY FOR THE MACON
DAILY TELEGRAPH.
Azlasza, March 18, 1869.
Senate.—The Senate met as osnal.
Air. Holcombe mored a reconaideration of
the action of the Senate in regard to_the gen
eral appropriation hill. He sustained hie
motion until the time allotted to speakers
had expired by pointing oot the great
need there was for retrenchment in the ex
penses of the State, and hoped that there
wnntd lie nn end of extra pay to clerks.
There were, he knew, plenty of men just as
competent as the men bolding those offices
who would tie very glad to get five dollars
a day, and be did not think there conld be
a better time selected (or catting down ex
penses than the present.
Air. Harris moved to lay the motion to be
considered on the table, which was concurred
in by a vote of yeas 19 nays 13.
Mr. Smith, 36th District, moved a recon
aideration ot the action of the Senate at the
early part of t'.ie present session voting down
a hill creating the office of State Geologist.
Tbe motion was laid on the table on mo
tion of Mr. Bums.
The report of the joint committee appoint
ed to investigate the affair of tbe Capitol
being the tpecial order ot the day, it was ta
ken up. • *'V-a *****9k. ■ ju .
The report of theCommittee was supported
by J. W. Candler who thought that the pur
chase of the new Opera House for State Cap
itol would be a great saving of expenditure
to the State.
Mr.' Hinton was opposed to the measure.
He thought it very well for persons living in
Atlanta to favor such a measure, but as the
city furnished them according to contract,
with proper quarters for nine years, yet to
come, be did not see why they should in
tbe present embarrassed condition of the
State make a purchase which would not be
necessary for so long a time. . _ _
Mr. Sfanpidly offered * rwriftion to the
effect that tbe Committee have power to ex
amine evidence as to the proper value of tbe
property and if they found it not worth tbe
amount asked, they should not purchato ?°° «? FIT."”?"”*" 1 "g! ” lT»

chase ot tbe Capitol. He thought the ques
tion should go to the jreople, and that the
Legislature bad no right or power to act,
until the will of the tax payers of tbe coun
try was known. They had not been elected
by tbe people with any view to the ques
tion under diaensaion, and be, therefore,
wanted tbe people to speak their aeniimente
and their wishes.
Tbe report and resolutions of tbe com

concurred in.

the South.
The glory, the honor and prosperity of the
Sonth are not in tbe bands of old politicians;
they are in tbe keeping of the young men
who. as they prove industrious or indolent,
great shall be tbeir reward or terrible their
punishment What the South most urgently
requires at this supreme hour of destiny ia a
splendid array of hard working, sober, stal
wart and enterprising youths.
Tbe young men who work now are bonnd
to be the lords of tbe fntnre and tbe mien of
the land. No matter how lowly, industry
will euobletbem and tbeir progeny will own
tbe sea’s of domination. In the same ratio,
tbe idle and timid will sink lower and lower
as tbe years progress, and the traditions of
tbeir aristocratic lineage will not save them
from decrepitude and final extinction. Tbe
better a m»n is born the more is he called
upon to give proof that be is superior to tbe
bones of bis ancestors and worthy of bit gen
tle blood. Tbere is no excuse for him if be
fails to outstrip those wbo have to battle
against adverse fate and fatal ostracism. He
ought to blush if tbe race be woo by tbe tor-
toise, while be isM swift and nimble a bare.
Georgia lias tbifi day, at work in the fields,
msDy a youngster whom sbe will in tbe fu
ture delight to honor with her choicest gifts.
We have heard of several whose example is
worthy of commendation. Tbe latest illus
trations brought to our knowledge are these:
Amos Norrig of Warren county, with one
plow and a .horse, cultivated,'tbifi season,
eleven acres of land in cotton aud eigh
teen acres in com. Tbe land was of the
poorest, and yet be (bads five bales of cot
ton and one hundred bushels of coin. Not
only did be cnltivste this crop without as
sistance, but, nnsided and oIodc, packed the
cotton and harvested the corn.
Adam-Todd, of the samecounty, with but
trifling assistance, made five bales of cotton
on nine acres of land, and two hundred bush
els of corn on eighteen seres. His land was
a little better than that of Norris.
Well done, both of you t Instead of being
ashamed of your labor, let there be, benee-
fortb, a glow of manly pride on your brows.
Let the success of this one experiment move
yon to greater exertions in tbe time to come.
of life, you need not fear for your children’s
or your destiny. When the Norrises and
Todds shall be multiplied a thousand-fold,
Georgia will look down on New England
and start on a path ot empire which the roost
fervid fancy can but inadequately portray.

tried It, know that it cored them; those who hare
not, know that it cures their neighbors and friend,,
ami all know that what it does once U does always
—that it never fkila through any Quilt or neglect of
Us composition. We have, and can show, thou
sands upon thousands of certificates of remarka
ble cures of tbe following complaints, but such
cures are known in every neighborhood, and why
should we publish them ? Adapted to all ages and
conditions in all climates: containing neither calo
mel or any deleterious drug, they may be taken
with satiety by anybody. Their sugar coating pre
serves them ever fresh and makes them pleasant to
take, while being purely vegetable no barm can
arise from tbeir use in any quantity.
They operate by tbeir powerful influence on the
Internal viscera to purify the blood and stimulate it
into healthy action—remove the obstructions of the
stomach, bowels, liver, and other organa of the
body, restoring their irregular action to health, and
by correcting, wherever they exist, such derange
ments as are the first origin of disease.
Minute directions are given in the wrapper on
the box, for tbe following complaints, which these
VUla rapidly cure:—
For Ityspepslia or Indigestion, listless,
ness, I~inaruor and law of Appetite, they
Oould lie taken moderately to stimulate the stom-
^ch and restore its healthy tone and action.
For River Complain, and its various symp
tom*, Billons Headache, Sick Headache,
Jaundice or Green Sickness, Bilious
Colic and Bilious fevers, they should be ju
diciously liken for each case, to correct the diseased
action or remove the obstructions which cause it.
For Dysentery or Diarrhoea, but one mild
dose is generally required.
For Dhenmatism. Gout. Gravel, Palpi
tation of the Heart, Pain ia the Aide,
Duck and Loins, they should be continuously
taken, as required, to change tbe diseased action of
the system. With such change those complaints
disappear.
For Dropay and Dropsical Swellings they
should be taken in large and frequent doses to pro
duce the effect of a drastic purge.
For Suppression a large dose should be taken
as it produces the desired effect by sympathy.
As a IHnitrr VUl, take one or tiro VUla to pro-
—-e digestion and relieve the stomach.
An occasional dose stimulates the stomach a*—
bowels into healthy action, restores the appetite,
and invigorates tbe system. Hence it is often ad
vantageous where no serious derangement exists.
One who feels tolerably well, often finds tbatadose
of these Villa makes him feel decidedly better, from
their cleansing and renovating effect on the diges
tive apparatus. There are numerous rases where
a purgative is required, which we sannot enumer-
and where toe virtues of this Pill are known, t
public no longer doubt what to employ.

Ayer’s Cherry Pectoral,
For Diseases of the Xhroat and Rungs,
such as Coughs, Colds, Whooping
Cough, Bronchitis, Asthma,
and Consumption.
Probably never before in tbe whole history of
medicine, has anything woo so widely and so deeply
upon tbe confidence of mankind, as this excellent
remedy for pulmonary complaints. Through a loag
series ofyrars, and amoDg most of the races of
men it has risen higher and higher in their estima
tion, 33 it has become better known. Its uniform
character and power to core the various affections
of the lungs and throat, hare made it known as a re
liable protector against them. While adapted to
milder forms of disease and to young children, it is
at the same time tbe most effectual remedv that can
be given for incipient consumption, and the dan
gerous affections of tbe throat and lungs. As a pro
vision against sodden attacks of Croup, it should
be kept on hand in every family, and indeed as all
are sometimes subject to colas and coughs, all
should be provided with' this antidote for them.
Although settled Conaumpliou is thought in
curable, son great numbers or cases where toe dis
ease seemed settled, have been completely cured.' 0
and toe patient restored to sound health by the
Cherry. Vectoral. So complete is its mastery
over the disorders of the Lungs and Throat, that
the moat obstinate of them yield to it. When noth.
“S else could reach them, under the Cherry Veo-
toml they subside and disappear.
Singer* and Vuhlie Speakers find great pro-
tecuon from it.
Asthma is always relieved and often whoUy
cured by it.
Bronchitis is generally cured by the
Cherry Pectoral in femall and frequent doses.
So generally are its virtues known that it is un
necessary toi pubh=h the certificates of them here.
