GROCERIRS AND PROVISIONS.
Trade in this line has been confined mostly to a
brisk retail business the poet week. Bacon is now
much firmer than at any time during the last fort
night and though we have no change to note, yet
prices look sharply upward.
Flour is rather doll and the demand limired Com
is very firm at quoted rates. Tobacco is quiet. Whis
ky in fair request and prices firm.
Fertilizers continue in active demand and the sales
of the week haTS been heavy.

Keep at It.—Many of oar citizens have had their

the city authorities will do it for them and collect

Wright went out to look for his sister and Harriet,
and he soon saw the latter hnnying through the
woods toward tljp Macon and Western Railroad

was. Harriet replied that she had taken a severe
headache and bad returned to the house, and went
on toward the railroad, and after getting on the
track, looked up and down in an uneasy or excited
maimer for a moment, and then crossed over and
disappeared. The boy returned to tbs boose, then
nearly dark, and not finding his sister, he became
alarmed and spoke to the neighbors about it. Search
was immediately instituted for Miss Nancy but aba

poor girl was found some distance from the bouse,
and lying across a small bag of Ught wood, as if she
had been in the act of lifting it np and was struck
down over it. The body was taken to tbs house,
and as no wounds appeared except on the bead, all
the hair was cat closely off by C*pt Simpson, when
it was found that five terrible Mows bad been in

back and top part of the bead, all of which cut into
the brain, and one heavy Mow on the temple with
the but of the ax. Either of the blows would have

How Hostetter’s Bitters Cure Dyspepsia.
TEE WHOLE STORY IX a XUTMtLL.
The office of the stomach ia to convert the food Into
it cream-like semi-fluid, called Cbtek. This ia effec
ted partly by the action of a solvent, sailed the gastris
juice, whieh exudes from the ooating of the stomach,
and psrtly by a mechanical movement of that organ,
whieh rJtanw. ae itw»ra.thadlssolvingaIlment. The
Chtmx passe* from the stomach to the duodenum, or
entrance to the bowels, where it is *nhiacted to the
action of the bile, and the nutritious portion of it
converted into a fluid called Chpfe. whieh eventually
becomes blood.
Now. It is evident that If the great solvent, the gas
tric juice, is not produced in suOeieat quantity, or if
the mechanical action of thestomaohi* not sufficiently
brick, thejirstproeea* of dipeotion will be but imper
fectly performed. It is also clear that if tha liver,
which plays such an important pait In changing the
nourishing portion of the chyme into the material of
the blood, ia congested, or in nny unnatural eondlUon.
the second process will not be thoroughly aeoom-
plished. The remit of the two failure* is dyspepsia,
complicated with biliousness
The mode in whieh HOSTETTER’S BITTERS op
erate in such oases aa thU: They invigorate the cella-
lar membrane of the stomach, whieh evolves the gas-
trie juice, thereby insuring an ample sufficiency of
the fluid to completely dissolve the food. They alio
act upon the nerve* of the atomacb. causing aa acerl-
omtion of the mechanical movement necessary to re-
rcauco the food to a homogeneous mass. They also
act speeifleally upon the liver, strengthening it, and
so enabling It to produce a t ample and regular sup
ply of bile, for the pnrpeee of converting the nutri
tious particles of the chyme and chyle, and promote
the passage through the bowels of the useless debris.
In this way, HOSTETTER’S BITTERS euro dys
pepsia and liver complaint. The explanation is
plain, simple, philosophical and true.
