The Latz Hc&deb—Pbeuxtvabt Exaudiatiox
Before Hoy. Judge Code YEETERDir.—Yesterday
morning at 10 a. X.. the Hon. Judge Cole held a
special Court at the City Hall for the purpose of in
vestigating the facte in connection with the murder
of Misa Nancy Wright, ty the colored girl, Henrietta
Greer, on Tuesday last
The prisoner was represented by J. P. Fort. Esq.,
who waived the committing trial, and requested that
the prisoner be sent to jail until the May term of
the Superior Court. The Court aaeented to the dis
position asked, and the prisoner was accordingly
escorted to j ail.
The City Hall was crowded to excess on the occa
sion, by persons of all ages and colors, who evinced
a great anxioty to see her whom they looked upon
as one of the most brutal and cold-blooded she-
fiends of tbs present time. We were pleased to
notice, however, that, much aa the people loathed
the act of which she had been guilty, and difficult as
it is to suppress just indignation on such an occa
sion, no effort was made to rob the law of its victim
shd justice of its prerogative.
DESCErPTIOX OP THE PRISONER.
The prisoner, who is about nineteen years of age
and rather thick set, is of a whining black-brown
complexion. Her features are snch as to indicats
recklessness of action, and her stolid indifference
as to what may be the result, is in perfect harmony
with the savage nature abiding within. She wae
dressed in an oldlightccolored dress which, from its
appearance, as well as that of the dirty handker
chief surrounding her head, gave no evidence of
that thrift and love of display manifested by many
of her race.
srspimoxs or axothzb xcbdeb.
It is now the general impression that this un
fortunate gill has been the murderer of her own
brother who, it will be remembered, was found dead
some time since, and many seem to bo confident
that truth to this effect will be brought to light be
fore long. If snch is the ease, we can only say that
it is well for the sake of the honest and respectable
people living in the neighborhood which was once
her home, that an all-seeing Providence has seen
fit to stop her terrible career, and place her where
she will he beyond the reach of f ntnro victims.

8w **P.—The following is a copy of the the act of
the Legislature, a brief synopsis of which we gave
yesterday, in regard to the building of a new Court
house and Jail for Bibb county, and also for drain
ing what is known as the Macon Reserve—a bad
swamp just below the city—and which, during the
summer months, is believed to be detrimental to
the health of the city:

PEELER COTTON SEED.
The Peeler Cotton had its origin In Misri'fippi. up
on the plantation belonging to a gentleman whose
name it beers. He fontid it growing among his ordi
nary standingerop.diitingnished from all the rest both
by the fineness nnd strength of it* staple—the abun
dance of the fruit, its forwardness, the free exposure
of the lint, and other peculiarities. Carefully select
ing the seeds from these occasional stalks, ha eeeured
in time, by reproduction, a distinct nnd valuable va
riety of cotton, which, it is supposed, will supercede
. all other short staple varieties, until astill better can
be developed.
It is claimed for this cotton that it possesses a fine
ness and length of fibre unrivalled by any othershort
staple variety. That in Mreogtk of flbrait exeels any
other. That it U two weeks earlier. That it is far
more prolifio than any other variety—that a bale to
two hales per oars is the common product of it ia Mis
sissippi. That by reason of the superior site of tbe
boll'gfiid the manner in which the cotton protrudes
from them, pissing taemoch more easy and rapid
operation; and anally, that in valno tho product is
worth nbontlorty per cent, mors than ordinary varie
ties.
An examination of this cotton is sufficient to estab
lish some of then points. Tbe fibre isvory fine, silky
and extraordinarily strong. Tho pnee of the eotton in
: the markets is a matter of notoriety, end the evidence
of its superior fruitfulness teems to be very clear and
strong.
Thu Messrs. Ware have appointed .oners. Johnson.

L the Peeler Cotton Seed in Central Georgia, and they
I will also appoint scents at other points in the Stats.
I The teed will bo sold at six dollars a bushel, and sat-

Macos as a Wholesale Market.—Wo print this
morning tbe cards of mis; of our wholesale mer
chants. It is proper here to say that all of these
gentlemen are of the strictest Integrity, and well ed
ucated in mercantile pursuits.
Within a few yean past, Macon has presented a
fine opportunity to dealers who make purobaaet of
goods by the case or by the bale. An earnest and
a successful effort was made soon after tho clooo of
the war to make it a central mart. To retain it, the
general rules governing mercantile cities of mneh
larger growth have been adopted. These dealen
realized tbe fact that their city wae no longer a
country town, demanding not leas than fifty per
cent profit upon every sale. Bat they cat down
the margins to one-fourth and one-fifth that amount,
and had sought to make It np by increasing the vol
umes of their trade. Goods are now being sold so
low that no one in all the country around and below
ua can go North and do a whit better than they can
here. But a country merchant will naturally ask
how can they buy goods cheaper in New York than
he can? The way of it is this: Tho country mer
chant boys from three to eight thousand, while tbe
Macon wholesale merchant bays from fifty to two
hundred thousand every time he goes to New York.
It is a universal rule to regulate the price in propor
tion to the magnitude of the bin. It ia well known
that a single suit of clothes, a hat or a cigar cannot
be bought in New York one cent cheaper than in
Micon. But you can buy five hundred suits, one
thousand hats, or five hundred boxes of cigars there
cheaper than here.
In this principle of gradation, we find our oppor
tunity to offer bargains to eountry dealers. In all
goods manufactured in New England, New York
baa no advantage over us at all, for we go right to
the mills and there make purchases.

Staple ahd Faxct Dev Goods.—Our worthy fel
low-citizen and merchant, G. Nussbaum, from a
long residence in Macon has established a fine rep
utation and ia doing a good business. As will be
seen by his advertisement, he has received a large
stock of dry goods, purchased by himself in New
York. The citizen and dealer, by calling at bis store
in the Damonr Block, will find, perhaps, the moet
complete assortment of hosiery and white goods in
the city. And, also, dress goods In endless variety,
sotted to the market, to tbe people, and to the pock
et These goods are marked low down and will be
sold accordingly, either at retail or to the trade. Tbe
whole establishment ia run upon tho principle of
short margins and quick reinvestments, and the
proprietor ia perfectly confident of giving the ut
most satisfaction to each and every one who may
trade with him.
He spent many weeks in the great American dry
goods markets selecting this stock. It is far larger
and better than was ever packed upon his shelves
or displayed upon his counters.
