The Trying Sesien-Therearehtng winds, the
cold, driscling reins, the heavy fogs, and occasional

depressing influences are especially unfavorable to
invalids, end thousands of persona with feoblo consti

down in the first month of spring. The variations of
temperature and oold east winds are a serious trial to
the dyspeptic and bilious, whose symptoms they in
variably aggravate. Intermittent fever is also rife

Very early in the morning of Easter saluted each oth

response was made: “Christ is risen indeed, and
hath appeared to Simon. ” The Greek Church still
retains this custom.
Easter day is always the first Sunday after the

U. S. Coxxisbioxzb's Cocss.—Mr. J. C. Leftwick
was brought before this Court yesterday after
noon on a charge of counterfeiting. The defendant
announced through his counsel, Maj. Galhaher, hi«
readiness for trial, bpt the U. S. District Attorney
continued the case until next Tuesday, in order to
get a witness from Atlanta, meanwhilo the prisoner
was bound for bis appearance in the sum of *500.
Tho general impression here seems to bo that Mr.
L. is innocent of the charge against him, and eo lit
tle confidence had the District Attorney in his guilt,
that he only demanded a bond in the meagre sum of
4500.
Mr. A. J. Craft, for whom Mr. L. has been clerk-
ling, who was on a business trip to Southwestern
Georgia, hurriedly returned yesterday evening when
ho saw in a city paper that he was suspected of be
ing implicated in this matter, and demanded an im
mediate investigation of all charges that might be
brought against him. He was requested to be on
hand Tuesday, and his word alone was taken as se
curity for his appearance.
Death or Wasuisotoji Baretieli).—Mr. Wash
ington Barefield died yesterday morning about 2
o’clock, from the effects of the injuries be sustained
about S o'clock in the afternoon of Friday, by baring
a brick shod to fall on him at tho brick yard of Mr.
Pater Harris, and not Bogera as wo stated yesterday.
His skull was fractured, his arm broken, and other
injuries inflicted which produced death in about ten
[hours.
I. Mr. Barefield was an indnetrious good citizen, a
Georgian by birth, was raised about 12 miles from
Macon, and at the time of his death was about 45
years of age. Ho leaves no family as he was never
married. He had traveled nearly all over tho world;
was a gentleman of fine intellectual endowments,
and had, perhaps, tho rarest and best conversational
powers of any gentleman in this section. His
knowledge of men and things was practical and ac
quired by observation and intercourse with them.
During the war he was identified in body and mind
with the Confederate cause. He was captured at
diicamanga, and confined for months at Camp
Doaglas, where his health was seriously impaired
and from tho effects of which he never entirely re-
ooreted.
How mysterious are the ways of Providence!
Hero was a man who had traveled tho world over;
had successfully braved tho dangers of every sea and
land; had successfully withstood tbs perils, hard
ships and exposures of a long and desolating war;
bat, notwithstanding his triumph over all, he was,
in a moment, crushed to death when in the prime
and vigor of manhood, by a trilling accident which,
but for its fatal consequences, would not bo worth a
passing notice!

Fob Sate.—We learn that the gentlemen who
formerly composed the Young Men’s Christian As
sociation or Macon, propose to sell their Chapel on
Bassett’s HHL and, after paying the debts of the as
sociation, turn over the proceeds to the Bibb county
Orphan Association, for tho benefit of the Orphan’s
Home. This course has been determined upon by
them for some time, and they now intend carrying
it out; for the Orphan’s Home is greatly in need of
funds, and the Chapel and grounds, being of con
siderable value will bring a very respectable sum, so
it is thought.
If therefore, there are any who desire to purchase
the Chapel of the YonngMen’s Christian Association,
thav should make that desire known. Messrs. B. A.
Wir e, Clifford Anderson and Sami. Boykin are Trus
tees for the Chapel and application may be made to
either of them. We believe that an order from
court, permitting the sale of the Chapel, has already
been obtained.

The trouble generally with people is not to much
how to tav a thing what to say. First get an
idea into the head and it wfll find its way to the
tongue. There’s no running a stream without la
fountain. E?en fhn fanmt talk without
something to say.
We wore asked, yesterday, if. we knew how
hens hold on to the roost when asleep. We have
never given the subject speaal attention, but sup-
pose it is done the same way as when they are
awake. If man was a hen, be would hold on with
hie hands; but a hen appears to prefer her feet.
Scandal, if an invention, is sure, like children, to
grow rapidly. The more improbable, the faster its
growth, and the more readily credited by a majority
of people. Folks let fiction in at-the front door
with all sorts of ceremony, but ldck-faet out. at the
back door without any.

The leading question should sometimes be, not
whether a young man can be fitted for college, but
whether be is fitted to go by his nature and instincts.
It is of no more nse to send some young chape to
college, than it would be to race a mad turtle with
a velocipede. Failure would be sure in cither case.
Many very philosophical, and many very satisfac
tory works have been written on memory, but none
have ever explained why some people almost always
forget to psy their little bills at the corner groceries,

Their fscnjty for gathering the smallest bills dqs

Dress and address have tbeir advantages. Nobody
wants to go into society without more or less of

No” is a hard word to nttcr. The lips don’t
packer on it easily. It stumbles on the tongue. It
don’t jingle. When it is out, it never goes into other
people’s ears pleasantly. May be it was a mistake
to have ever invented it. Eveiytody is down on it,
and tbe wonder is, that it did not go up long ago.

Bills differ. One that is payable has no pleasant
feature—in fact, is ugly. A bill receivable Is as
pretty as the face of the girl yon fancy, with the ad

often leads to a sort of mental bill-krasnees; but a
bill receivable often cures the wont of ills. Bills
