Telegraph: The question of the location of the
Court-boose is again being agitated, and a vague
notion prevails that it should he placed more cen
trally than the corner of Second and Mulberry
streets, but the whereabouts is still undecided.
Economy seems to be a favorite argument in favor
of the point mentioned, inasmuch as the property-
holders in that vicinity propose donating the lot,
while those who contend for centrality, it Is thought,
will have to buy the ground- In either case an ex
penditure of from sixty to eighty thousand dollara
for buildings is proposed, which, in the end, might
be a ranch larger sum. In the present impover
ished condition of our people, these large sums
have an awful significance, and their expenditure
should bo avoided if there is any possible chance.
That chance exists. Tha citizens of Macon, who
own six-sevenths of the property of the county,
have a building upon which if ten thousand dollars
were spent, would be finer looking, externally, tha.,
any that conld be erected for those larger sums, and
would give mors space for court and jury rooms, as
well as county offices, than will ever be needed or
used. Erect an additional story to the Gty Hall
building, with separate entrances .on the side to the
second and third floors, and the vrorfc is done! The
present HaU has never been of any real use to the
city, which has ample hall and office iflBowwoditiBB
on the lower floor, and may veiy well be dispensed
with. The necessary subdivisions may be made and
the boaicesa of the county accommodated in a satis
factory manner, with mnch leas fire risk then would
be with the Coort-bonse part of a block surrounded
by other buddings.
At the time of the erection of the present Gty
Hall, that structure was considered to be the best
piece of work that had ever passed through the
hands of Major Steel, and stronger than seemed
necessary. The walls are thick and good now, and
it is presumed, in the absence of an architectural
report to the contrary, are quite strong ningh to
support the additional structure. And if so, where
m the necessity for this large contemplated outlay ?
In this view of the matter, might not economy and
centrality both be satisfied, and til conflicting inter
ests thus be reconciled ?
In this connection, s lot for the erection of a Jail
is spoken of, and has almost been laid off by nature
already, at or near the intersection of First and
Wharf streets, about the same from the
City HaU as the present guard-house, and as nearly
hid from the public eye as it is possible to be within
the limits of the corporation.
There is already in the Treasury some thirty-five
thousand dollars cash, which is presumed to be am
ple for both buildings, and if appropriated as shove,
would relieve the people for years to come of a
heavy load of which the onerous taxation of the
present year is but a foretaste. These views might
not suit either of the parties in the field as candi
dates for Commissioners—certainly not the sub
scribing party for Mulberry street—but the question
is none the toes in the bands of the people, who can
doubtless save themselves 950,000 by their votes on
Saturday, if they so will it. Having pointed out the
method of doing so, it but remains to commend to
the people, in this as in all things, a liberal V

Acquitted.—Mr. J. 0. Left wick, who was tried
yesterday in the United States Commissioner's
Court, on a charge of passing counterfeit money,
was fully and honorably acquitted. In fact, there
was no evidence offend against hint that could be
fairly termed evidence, and the trial waa little else
than a mere formality.
In the case of Mr. A. J. Ckaft, be waa dismissed
without even so much as a hearing. He makes a
fall statement of the case in an advertisement, else

Jobs stow A Co., Gkxxaai. Aocsra.—We call special
attention to the advertisement of this Company into
to-day's isane. What it has done and proposes now
to do is the best evidence of the equity and liberality
that characterizes its settlement of Southern polices
lapsed during the war.
In its age—its large capital—its attractive tables
and largo dividends it certainly desires the great
success it is having—but it is doubly entitled to it
when it presents itself through the honored names
of Gen. Joe. E. Johnston and Gov. Ben Humphreys.
They vindicate it and establish it to the entire con
fidence of every Southern man against any effort
from any quarter to impair its strength or retard its
prosperity.
Extraordinary Revelation in Russia.
A very remarkable affair has recently been
brought to lighiin Russia through the revelations
of a merchant in the town of Morshtchansk, a
flourishing village southeast of Moscow. This
merchant accused one Flotitzin with having un
lawfully amassed and secreted an immense
amount of money, which he said was stowed away
in cellars under the owner's residence. He farther
declared that Plotitzin held strange doctrines and
performed hideous ceremoniies in secret. The
representations of the merchant were such as to
arouse the attention of the authorities, and
they proceeded to investigate. Plotizin's house
waa searched by the police, and in the cellar a
scene presented itself which might recall the
old ' ,Im of the Spanish conquest of Mexico.
Stores of gold revealed themselves in every di
rection; pots, pans, leathern bags, canvass
sacks, ail tilled with the precious metal and even
a number of Urge Osaka, which stood at the
further end of the vault, were found to be
crammed with bars and ingots of gold to the
very top. The gold coin were mostly of ancient
date. The whole scene formed such a tableau
as the oldest man present in ail proba-
' bility, had never before gazed upon ; and the
earliest estimate,(probably an exaggerated one J
rates the treasure os high as ten million rou
bles—considerably over £.1,000,000 sterling.
The alleged accumulation of wealth having
been fully established, the authorities extended
their examination to the other matter charged
