The receipts of all tlie ports during last wreck
are reported at 28,011 kales, against 82,000 the
week previous, and 34,000 for the correspond
ing week of last year. The receipts (exclusive
of overland) are now apparently about 137,000
bales short of those of last year to same date,
and the probability, we think, id that they will
henceforward gain on tho receipts ofApril and
May of last year, instead of showing a further
falling off. The following were the weekly re
ceipts of last year for the dates given:
Week ending April 22d, 18,000; April 29,18,-
500; May 6, 14,500; May 13, 11,000; May 20,
8500 : May 27, 5500. The prospect is that the
receipts of the corresponding weeks of rbiq year
will be fully as large.
Last year the correct overland receipts were
not given until the close of the season. They
are this year estimated so far at about 122,000
bales, making the decrease only about 15,000
bales. It is not improbable that the yearly re
port of overland receipts will be somewhat larger
than the returns so far indicate.
At this advanced period of the season, the
crop of 1868 may be estimated pretty closely.
That it cannot vary much from the amount of
the crop of 1867, is apparent, and it is quite
probable that there will not be a difference of
100,000 bales in the crops of the two years.—

Macon, April 21*1,1869.
Mew York Dry Goods Market. .
From the /nilcptirlent, April 15.]
Bleached shirtings and sheetings are dull, ex
cept for some of the more popular fltnilad
makes, and prices for nil descriptions con hardly
be quoted as Ann. The next week or ten days
will doubtless determiuo whether a decline will
Im established or not, for during that time
the amount of tho spring business will pretty
well be ascertained.
Prints have exhibited an exceptional activity
daring the week, and much larger Bales have
been effected than of Any other class of domes
tics, and prices are firmer, though the light fan
cy patterns do not sell freely at quotations,
Sprague's fancies being 12$less 1 percent., and
for D. Merrimack's the same prico ia obtained.
Ginghams are in fair demand for tho best
qualities, without any material change of prices.
„ Printed lawns and percales are in fair demand
at steady rates, but they are not quite so Active
as at tho beginning of the season.
Rolled jaconets are in very good supply, and
prices are not fully maintained.
Cambrics are in fair demand, but some makes
are offered at a alight decline of prices.
Silesias are in but little demand. Tho season
'is not favorable to them, and sales ore limited.
Prices remain without quotable change.
In all other descriptions of domestic cottons
the market re main i without material change.
. Muslin do laines are slow of sale, except for a
few choice styles adapted to tho season.
Woolens are generally lower and dull, except
for certain makes of black and colored cloths.
In caasimeves and satinet there is but little
doing, and prices are unsettled. The stock in
first hands is large, while the demand ia mostly
oonfinod to medium or low grades of cassimercs.
The finer qualities of satinets are dull, but there
is a fair demand for some of the lower grades.
Kentucky jeans are without any quotable
change of price.
Carpets are in good demand, and prices are
steady. Brussels and ingrains are equally called
for, and the manufacturers have considerably
reduced their stocks.
Imported goods have not been actively dealt
in during the week; and, except for silks, and
the best styles adapted to the city trade of dress
goods, and summer fabrics, the demand is very
limited. Tho importations and withdrawals
from bonded warehouse for the week havo been
largo, and the auction rooms havo been well
supplied with every description of goods
adapted to the season, but tho bidding has not
been lively. Tho rise in tho price of gold dar
ing the week gives more firmness to tho market
for most kinds of foreign goods, and the ad
journment of Congress without touching the
tariff imparts more confidence to importers; for
it is now certain that a full year must elapse be
fore any change can be effected in tho present
rate of duties.

Secretary Fish on Cuba.
Secretary of State Fish is reported by the
Herald’s 'Washington correspondent to have
given utterance to the following very sensible
language in a recent Cabinet meeting on the
question of intervention by the United States in
Cnban affairs :
“Let her alone," said Fish; “give her a
chance single handed to work ont her own des
tiny, and she will gravitate towards the Repub
lican Union in spite of every obstacle. Spain
will soon tire af resisting the mandates of fate.
Proud though she be, the old Castilian mon
archy will find that she cannot afford to crash
out the free aspirations of the Republican sen
timent of Cuba. It is an enterprise too
costly and must be abandoned sooner or later.
Bnt iet the United States interfere, and Spain
will not only exhaust her own acquisition of the
labrnd. bnt she will draw to her assistance the
combined strength of England and France, and
we will have to combat a coalition representing
me most powerful military and naval forces in
Europe. Why tempt this contest unnecessarily!
Why drag the republic into a' formidable war,
when it has just emerged from the most formid

morality is the throwing of banana, orange,
rate statistics could be compiled, no donbt it
would be fonnd that thousands of injuries to the

No good citizen will indulge in it, and no one

by kicking into the street every piece of orange

which he may see lying in their path.
