Prince Paul. Dcmidoff's .mansion and hohse-

vertised for sale. The catalogue speaks of on-
tiqno Flemish tapestry, woven after cartoons by
the great masters of the sixteenth century, cu
riously wrought gold ornaments, swords, pis
tols- and fowling-pieeos, services of Venetian-_„
and Bohemian glass; Anbnsson and Smyrna cart u
pets, and a collection of jewels which, apart
from their intrinsic worth, are valuable front
their associations with historical personages.'
Princo Paul Dcmidoff’s marriage was one of the
events of the briUiant season of 1867. It was
solemnized in the Greek Church in Paris. The
Emperor and Empress of Bnssia, for family
reasons, took, perhaps, a deeper interest in it
than anybody else. A heavy cloud seemed to
rest on. the bride and bridegroom. Imperial
presents and congratulations were powerless

rudely crushed for State reasons.
In connection with them were mentioned th<
death of the Grand Duke Nicholas, which b;
opening to a second son the succession to ai
Imperial throne, imposed on him the necessity
of csjiandittgthe elder brother's .Jfuncee. What
ever amoum of truth or untruth there was in
this sad tale, there could have been only on<
feeling about the bride, ,and that was of 4ee]
pity. She was beautiful, tender-hearted, am
weighed down with grief and utterly indifferent
to the favors fortune seemed never tired in
heaping upon her. Few saw her at the wedding
who did not perceive that her days were count

this way, for crops of grain and peas more than
pay for the labor of.the two plowings given the

only troublesome one. The grains smotherthe

About three weeks ago Dr. P. A Fltzhugh,

citizens, received letters (anonymously) that
they were to be burned out. Since that time
the doctor has had his corn houses, barn, three

Mr. West has had his dwelling house burned

threatening to bum the property of five other
gentlemen. It is supposed the threats come
from what is known hero as tho “Union league,”
And nearly all the parties thus threatened are
persons who were called on by the sheriff about
three weeks ago to arrest a negro for breaking

league. The sheriff is one of the parties to be
