i In a short while the teachers and pupils of tho
Yine-rille School, and those of the Mulberry Street

together from the First Street Methodist Church,
and were received at the Mulberry Street Church in

two Schools named, and after they had passed in

Entering the Cbnrcb, wo rtojiy never saw a more
beautiful and impressive scene, anywhere or under
any drcumatances. The Church was densely
crowded, it is true, but the thousands of bright eyes
and smile-lit little faces, their gay attire, the hun

such a picture as the angel* love to look upon.

OFFICE DAILY TELEGRAPH. \
May 4—Evening. 1S69. J
Business penerzDr was pretty brisk to-day. not
withstanding tho great attractions of tho Sunday-
school celebration. In groceries and provisions
was very good and the demand foe leading articles
is steady and unabated. Wo have no change to note
in prices since last report, bat they continao very
firm, especially in com and bacon.
No change in the stock and bond market.
Corrox.—Receipts to-dav 10 bales; sales 402

The tone of the market was a little better to-day
than yesterday, and the views of buyers and sellers
were much more congenial than they have been for
time. Consequently, we report the heaviest
sales, made on any one day, daring the last month.
Prices firm and unchanged:

In regard to tbs speeches it is unnecoeeary to
say more than that the young orators acquitted
themselves most handsomely, and as each retired
from the rostrum, he received a perfect Volley of
boqneta-and flowers. In regard to the ringing, we
h*To only to «*y that we never beard bettor from
so many voices. It was most aweet and harmonic no.
Bat the following reeolation passed unanimously af
ter the lost song, explains this pert of Use exercises :
Raolgnl, That tho thanks of this Urge assem
blage are hereby tendered to Prof. Whitney, of the
Wesleyan Female College for the beautifol singing
which sre have beard this morning, and the children
who have been so admirably trained by his skill,
for giving tts ths finest singing we have ever heard.
The Superintendent of Exercises, Bev. J. Blake
ley Smith, then announced that the schools would
form in line in front of the church, and march to
the grove near Rose Ilill Cemetery, where the din
ner tables were prepared and, after feasting, the
Coronation exercises wonld take place.
The different school** then formed in line os above,
in e very orderly and quiet manner, the right of the
column resting on the church, tod extending down
tho street below the BtabblefiaH House. Tliero
were five schools in procession, numbering in all
about fire bamked little boys and girls. At tho
word of the Marshal of tbo Day, Mr. Wm. Singleton,
the column moved off to tho grove to tbo music of
the Band, and os they did eo, they presented a most
beautiful and imposing spectacle.
On arriving at the hollow jnst this ride of the Cem
etery, the column filed to the left at the rood end
up to the grove where tbs tables were spread.
Each school hod its table, end tho teacher* and
pupils gathered around them and partook of most
elegant and samptaona repasts. After dinner the
happy little children and the crowd generally spent
the next three hours in strolling through the grove,
or in sitting about in the shadojd^tting and witness
ing the preparation for the Coronation exercise*.
The floral thrones were erected in tbo grove to
the right of ths road leading to tho Cemetery. They
were four in number and very beautifully constrnct-
They consisted of platforms about four feet
from the ground, over-arebed with wreaths and
flowers, and Tory tustofoBy decorated. To ono
standing on the crest of the hill a few paces distant
and looking down upon them they appeared like the
homes of some fairy queen*. But we have not the
time or epees to comment and must tell what was
done.
About four o'clock the Coronation exercises began
and proceeded in tbo following order:
Tho Ymevillo School selected as their Queen of
May, Miss Ell* Wall. On ascending her fairy like
throne her subjects bowed their allegiance and the
crowner. Miss Valeria Lamar, then stepped forward
and in the most loyal terms and manner placed the
crown on her Majesty’s head, andMaring tier hand
in affectionate allegiance took her position to the
right of the throtle. Her Majesty's garland bearer,
was Hiss Fannie Logan; Scepter bearer, Mis* Lon
Holt. Maids of Honor: Kitty Lyons and Maggie
Browning. Seasons: Spring. Fannie Lamar; Stim-
Miity Mongbon ; Autumn, Josie Day : Winter,
Jemio Hardeman, and six little Flower Girls.

4th Coronation. The Mulberry Street School,
Miss Fannie Boss, Queen.
Crowner. Miss LOa Boss; Scepter bearer, Miss
Minnie Jackson. Maids of Honor: Rosa Ham
mond. Annie Roberta, Hilly Cobb, Florence Potter-
Seasons: Spring, Minnie Roes; Slimmer,
Jessie Goodoll; Autumn, Julia Bass; Winter, liz
zie Rogers, and twenty Flower Girls.
Fully two thousand persons witnessed these pret
ty and mimic regal exercises and we are sure they
neTer saw anything in this section to it equal in point
of beotjty and loveliness. Tbe Queens were all hap
pily chosen and it matters not if their authority was
brief, they ruled all hearts whilst they were in pow-
■ ,n*t nermptisi their fragrant and beautiful thrones.
With the Coronation the exercises of the dsy
closed, and the happy scenes about which we have
talked and heard so nmch have been witnessed and
hare now passed into history.
No accident occurred to mar the pleasures of the
day, and Heaven blessed the little ones with bright
skies and delightful weather,in which to enjoy them
selves. May they lire to see tho return of many
such celebrations-os that of yesterday.

Hus eedesiastiealjbody met in this city on Fri
day night last, according to adjournment, for
the purpose of ordaining onr fellow-citizen, Mr.
Wm. McKay for the work of tho ministry. A
sermon was preached that evening by the Mod
erator, Rev. Mr. Bradshaw.
On Saturday morning Mr. McKay underwent
an interesting, instructive and satisfactory ex
amination, and preached his trial sermon. Sat
urday night Rev. J. S. Wilson preached, and on
Sabbath morning Rev. Dr. Wills preached to a
crowded and very attentive audience, an im
pressive sermon, on the most common excuses
rendered by those who will not make the effort
to become Christians.
Oncunday afternoon, Mr. McKay received
the solemn and impressive rite of ordination af
ter a sermon by the Bev. Mr. Hoyt, the former
Pastor of this Church,, and an address by tho
Rev. S. 8. Goillard.
The necessary questions wore propounded by
the Moderator of the Presbytery. At the close
of theso interesting exercises the Presbytery ad-
j onroad.
On ~

of our city, all eager to hear Dr. Wills'
on the “Unity of the Church.’’ Ho held the
andionce spellbound daring the delivery of this
most able, eloquent and convincing discourse.
He was assisted in the service by the Bev.
Mr. Moore, of tho Methodist church, and the
Rev. 8. 8. Gatilard, of the Presbyterian.'
They took their departure on Monday mon^
ing, leaving a most pleasant impression upon
our-people.
The next meeting of this Presbytery will take
place at Americas, next November.
Peace aud llic Alabama Claim*.
Before the recent public utterances of leading
British newspapers,and politicians upon Sum
ner's speech, and the rejection of tho Alabama
treaty, the sensible Washington correspondent
of the Charleston Courier wrote the following
predictions, which, we have no great doubt,
will be verified by subsequent facts:
I wish here to state that the best opinion of
sound statesmen in this ouuiflry to ngsd to
this subject, is that the Stanley-Johnaon treaty,
lately rejected by the almost unanimous vote of
tbe Senate, will, after a while, and under cir
cumstances somewhat different from those pres
ent, be unanimously confirmed The same
treaty, without the dotting of an i or tho cross
ing of a fawill be confirmed as soon as the prop,
er time for it shall arrive. On the eve of a Pres
idential election it was not expedient to make
a treaty which reminded every one of the pas
sions and interests of a late-civil war. Even
now, though the election is over, the feeling of
the Union or Republican party will not allow of
a treaty like that which Reverdy Johnson has
made, and which Sumner has denounced and
which tho Senate has rejected But after this
country shall be paciflcated, and its different
relations shall be harmonized itVill be the pol
icy of ths country to accept the adjustment of
the country to accept the adjustment of ques
tions with England upon the three treaties ne
gotiated by Reverdy Johnson, and rejected or
bud over by the United States Senate.
This, I repeat, is not only my own opinion, but
that of some of the most experienced publicists
whom I know. Tbe Alabama treaty is a-great
concession to America for the sake of peace. A
previous ministry consented to the demand of
-. Seward that “tho continnonco of the nego-
The negotiation was closed But now
the state of things with the concessions of Lord
Stanley, and hu successor, Lord Clarendon.
The British Government has given fair terms—
terms npon which it can and wifi stand, and which
our government will ultimately agree to, as mu
tually peaceable end beneficial.
It is worthy remark that since the rejection
of that treaty Hon. Charles F. Adams, the late
Minister to St. James, has publicly declared his
approbation of the treaty and said that it was all
that the United States could ask or had any
right to expect; and it is also announced that
the new Minister, Motley, goes to Europe icifli-
otU {attraction* in reference to any new demands.
He is to feel the English pulse, before the ad
ministration takes any now attitude in relation
to these claims.
. Ettecx or SmrcminMf.— 1 The Richmond Whig,
a few days since, demonstrated the probability
of Virginia’s having in the next Congress no
less than five negro members. Conspicuous
among these candidates was Lewis Lindsay,
whom Mr. Cowardin has made familiar to us all
The Whig's article so affected Lewis that he got
drunk, wandered into the engine room of the En
quirer, and slept off his debauch on a pile of coals.
If tho mere suggestion of Congressional honors
boa this powerful effect, what will the reality ac
complish? Fancy the Hon. Lewis Lindsay and
the Hon. Dick Yates on a bender in the streets
of Washington.
