Tbe Chairman of the Committee for investigating
the probable cost of putting grounds and buildings
*" 1 order, read the following report:
.Tke Committee of Ten appointed by this body
visited the Armory buildings and grounds with a
view of forming some estimate of the expense and
proper plans for placing tho buildings and grounds
in order for the Fair next November, so as to report
for action to this body. We found tho fence around
the premises in tolerably good order, needing very
little, if any repairs. The three buildings in rear
of the main building are in fur condition, with
roofs covered. These buildings are f or th*
exposition of machinery, and for offices and com
mittee rooms, and can be repaired at small cost.
The main front building we found devoid of either
roof or flooring, the repairs of which would incur a
largo expenditure. This building is 800 feet long
^7 — feet wide, and it is believed by your Commit
tee that one-half of it will bo sufficient, and give
ample room for the exhibition of all wares and pro
ducts on exhibition.
Tho grounds, some forty acres in extent surround
ing the buildings, are supposed to be of sufficient
space for tho exhibition of etock and for other pur
poses in connection with the Fair. These gro-ndv
will need some work and grading.
The Committee deem it necessary to only
this informal report at present, that tho ™y(t» »• may
be discussed and considered by the meeting aa a
whole, believing that in a multitude of counsel there
should be some wisdom.
Mr. Crockett, one of tbe above Committee makes
the following estimate:

From Cnba.
Washington, May 10.—The government to
day received advices direct from the insurrec
tionary portion of Cab*, giving information as
to the movements to that quarter. Parties here
to the interest of the Cubans state there are
now in the Cuban army 25,000 men, 2,500 of
whom ore Americans, and that about 3,000 of
tho latter nationality have recently been added.
It is said by representative* of the revolu
tionary army of Cuba, that success would be
placed beyond * doubt if the United States
would recognize the belligerent rights of those
who are striving to effect the independence of
Cuba, and in that cane tho men and money al
ready promised would bo furnished in abun
dance.
The Secretary of the Navy has called the at
tention of Admiral Hoff, commanding the North
Atlantic squadron, now in Cuban waters, to the
feet that armed Spanish vessels nr* in the neu
tral waters of the Golf of Mexioo. The Depart
ment directs that the Admiral keep n vigilant
watch hereafter, and prevent any such infrac
tions of international law, and advises him that
his duties are to protect not only American citi
zens but American commerce aa well. He to
also ordered to prevent American war vessels
from searching merchant vessels, it being their
dnty to protect American trade and not to mo-
lest it.
It to stated that the Captain-General of Cuba
has renewed hie attempts to bribe leading pa
triots into leaving the Island. General Ceapede*
ha* been offered • free pass for his family, and
two hundred thousand dollars, if he would aban
don Cabs. General Felix Fugerala, one who
since proved himself a very useful soldier, wan
offered $3,000. These propositions were made
through citizens empowered by the Captain-
General and were spurned at once.
It to declared that some who sought to accept
the proffered amnesty issued about two weeks
since, were recently murdered by the outposts
of volunteers. Several citizens suspected of
patriot sympathy have been taken from Santiago
d* Cab* jail at night and murdered by order of
Dolce’* chief of staff.
