The shooting of Adkins is greatly deplored by
many leading papers and citizens, as it is feared
that it will be handled as a pretext to deal harshly
with Georgia. So more developments as to tho
oos and intelligent Germans would soon cause to
bloom and blossom as the rose. The lands in tv»ia
section are peculiarly adapted to the cultivation of
th® grape—a fruit concerning which our people, as
a general thing, know nothing, and the Gemans
know all. As fine apples, peaches and other orchard
fruits grow in Central Georgia as can be found any- j T ^ e

ed. Tho same may be said of corn, wheat and oth

Germans, as a general thing, know little about
the cultivation of cotton, and nine-tenths of them
who attempt it are ruined; but let them come and
devote their time and labor to producing such fruits
