becon dealers received laat week 235.701 potuida of
bacon, and 14,091 boahele of com, both .of which
call for the nag gam. from the pocket, at planters,
of 937,929.68. That, we take it, is a pretty heavy
draft for one week, for only two articles of eubsist-
ence. If it requires a similar amount each week
until the next crop of corn ia gathered—say twenty
weeks—they will pay out abont one million, one
hundred and sixty thousand dollars.
The above calculations are besed on the lowest
cash prices, bat if, (as man; are doing,) these ar

upon planters to about two millions of dollars. But

•SrvD.iT School Ceueehatiox a East Haa».—
On Saturday last the teachers and pupils of East
Macon had their May Celebration. Sickness In th«
writer’s family prevented his attendance, or a report
of the proceedings would hare appeared in Sands;
morning’s paper. We are informed, however, that
the exercises of the day consisted of songs and
speeches, a splendid dinner, and that all passed off
most pleasantly.
Speeches were made by Masters Johnnie Howard,
Tbaddens Barge, Bennie Jones, Johnnie Craft and
Eddie Nelson. These littlo orators aU acquitted
themselves most handsomely and their addresses
wero well conceived and well delivered.
At the condnaion of the songs and speeches of
the votings ten, Rev. Mr. Rowzie. of Virginia, was
introduced, who delivered an able and Interesting
address upon the subject of Sunday Schools and
their Influences upon, and advantages to, the youth
of oar country.
Dinner was then announced and the large number
of little ooda, their teachers and visitor* repaired to
the school bouse near by sad partook of a moat el
egant and tomptucrui repast, after which the chil
dren engaged in "sportive plays,*’ and the after
noon was passed most pleasantly by the older beads
in sitting shoot in the shade chatting and Joking, or
in deriving that pleasure we aU feel in seeing the

Macos Bible Soczett.—The third anniversary of

Virginia, Mr. H. L Jewett, Treasurer, read hi* re-

port of the Board of Managers by Rev. Dr. Myers.
This report makes a very gratifying exhibit of the
operations of the Society in thin county, through
its excellent agent Bev. James Jones. The re
port waa adopted and ordered to be published.
After the reading of these reports the meeting
was addressed by Rev. Mr. Lnrky, agent of the
American Bible Society, Hon. James Jackson and
Bar. Dr. Wills, the presiding officer of the meeting.
After a collection was taken up an election was
held for offioeru of the Society for the present year,

Jacxo nr a Oooxiso Srovx.— Mr. Ed. Hicks, of
this dty, for a year or two past baa owned a very
large monkey, known to Maoonite# generally and

Jacko managed to escape from his cage, and before
the fact was known be was in the lower part of
town scaring the women and children half to death,
and his whereabouts were unknown until a pohee-
i was sent for to arrest the "disturbing ele-
it." Jacko refused to surrender bis liberty of
person, and for a time made a gallant fight; bat tbs
policemen “doubled on him,” and after receiving
sundry kicks and blows. Jfcko ran. and tried to find
Ida way bad to his cage on Fourth street. Ho dart
ed into the kitchen of McIntyre's restaurant, and
seeing a cooking stove aide door open, popped in
before bis pursuers reached the door of the kitchen
or saw what had become of him. Thinking, per-

pursuer* went on to his cage, but lo! Jacko waa not

In an hour after, a customer entered the restau

waa not in the kitchen at the time Jacko entered,
went to prepare the meal. Boeing the stove door
open, he abut it with hia foot, m panant, and gath

gan to stir hia eggs in a plate, preparatory to scram
bling them. Whilst standing there stirring tho
eggs. Jacko’s quarters became too warm for him,
and, forcing the door, he bounded out and darted
under the table. Hus was more than the cook
could stand, as he had not heard of the monkey's
escape, and, dropping his plate, eggs and spoon, he
rushed through tho front room and frantically in
formed his employer that the "berry debbil waa in
dekitchen, kase he saw him jump out ob de store,
and away ho went, and has not been heard of since.
The uproar noon renewed the pursuit after Jacko,
and he was recaptured and returned to cooler aad
more comfortable quarters than a stove with a fire
in it, but not until after be had seared a score of
women and children to within an inch of their lives,
and a negro ont of his senses.
RncAEgABu: Freak or Nature.—The moot re
markable lutm uuriirir we ever heard of occurred
on Sunday last in East Macon. A sow bad a litter
of pigs, still-born, that were actually half dog and
half pig. The head and fore-feet were those of the
dog, the feet being supplied with clawa. and in
every respect resembling those of a puppy. The
balance of the body was that of a pig, the hind feet
having tho hoof and eliapo of the pig’s hind feet. ■
We can scarcely believe that such a monstrosity
ever had existence, dead or alrre, and but for tho
fact that we were assured that it was so, we should
not have recorded it.
Mator's Court.—Two fights and a case of disor
derly conduct wero disposed of in this Court yester
day morning. Tho first case was against a white
man for using his knife in a fight with a negro. Ho
waa fined 920 or twenty days in the guardhouse. Ho
paid tho fine and was released. Another fight will
cost ths belligerent thirty dai s labor on tho streets.
Victoria Harris, a negress and night street walker,
than whom there is not a viler scamp in Bibb coun
ty, and who has been In this Court time and again
for her misdeeds, was ordered to tho guardhouse
for thirty days, and will occupy the stocks every day
during Hurt time.
For the benefit of such characters aa Vie., we
would state that it is tho determination of theMayor
to p'tit a stop to their street prowling at night, their
disgusting and infamous behavior, if he ia forced to
keep them in the stocks day and night, the year
round. Now let them go on in their mischief, and
if they can stand it the dty authorities can also.
The soda-water and fan trades wero active yes

perseverance in learning to ride tho "mursheen,”

his skin began, at tho expiration of his half hour.
He, in fact, got stuck.

moss’ IJmtr JlnHeine or Regulator ia manufactured
by J. H. Zeilin A Co.,
Druggists, Macon, Ga.
N. B.—The term Regulator was applied after we
cum interested in this article, because we be
lieved tt to be more appropriate. Our article is Dr.
Simmons’ Vegetable Uver Medicine that has been
in eviatanre about forty year*. J. 11. Z. A Co.
Having beard of tins pretended maker of our
Medicine, our Mr. Zeilin paid him a visit in lake,
and challenged him to prove our article waa not the
genuine, and stated if he would do so to oar satis
faction we would withdrew from tbs market and
punish any one that had deceived ua. He first de
clared our papers must he forged, and gave Mr.
Zeilin the luka Mirror, of May the 6th, to read,
which was ths only paper or proof he had to show,
which certainly contains no proof or satisfaction for
any sensible man. But to refute his charge of
counterfeiting, Mr. Zeilin exhibited to him the pa
per with the signature all perfectly genuine. He,
with modi astonishment, exclaimed: "Did he give
you this?" and teemed rather disconcerted, and
'finally said: "These signatures cannot be genuine."
Mr. Z. asked him if he had any writings of A. Q.
Simmons to which he could compare the signatures.
Ho said be bad. Sir. Z. asked him to produce
them, which he promised to do once, and Mr.
Zeilin proposed to accompany him to bis dwelling
to see them; but after walking less than half a
block he remarked that be did not know but what
tt would taka them some time to find the papers.
Mr. ZeiHn asked him bow long. He said an hour.
Mr. Z. then said. "I will not interrupt you by my
presence, but will retain to your store after visiting
the Spring—in an boor. (He was then on bis way
to his dwelling from bis store.) Mr.Z returned to tho
store in about an hour and found him there, and
asked him for the papers. He said he bad turned
back after he had left him and had not looked for
them, being called off, and that he did know where
exactly to look for them, and since he began to think
of it be believed that bis old father had got hiaboyi
to do his writing for many years, and he had none
written by his band. Mr. ZeiUn told him this was
“too bad;” that he had tried to entertain him for
three hours and it was nonsense to trifle in this way,
and if be had no more proofs than he had shown
the nonsensical tirade in the luka Mirror that it was
useless to waste time longer, and as tho excursion
train waa then approaching, he would go on it Ho
walked to the cars 'nth Mr. Zeilin, and there said,
"If you will agree to confine yonreelf to year own
territory I will agree to do the same, and we need
not Interfere with each other." But Mr. Z. declined
considering any such proposition, as we do not con
sider be haa any right in tha matter. Tho train hav
ing arrived we bid him adieu.
It does seem to us by the whole conduct of this
man, and hia writings, that he ia.only besting about,
trying with ua s bluff game. He has mads so often
contrary statements and misrepresentations, that
we do not see bow any respectable druggist or citi
zen can countenance or endorse him. Nothing but
low class abuso and illiterate ranting, that ahowa
weakness in the man and his canss, and we really
feel that we are doing violence to our good name in
noticing him in the least, and hare only to say: If
any one ia troubled with liver disease, and wants it
cured, to use our preparation, Dr. Simmon’* Liver

Our attention has been again called to a publi
