tion with the interacting and practical lecture, which
occupied about an hour in the delrrenr. A number
of the most cultivated ladies of the city was pres

evening at 8 o’clock, and we bespeak for trim a large
and enthusiastic representation from both sexes.
Our citizens are now enjoying a golden opportunity
for instruction, and we trust they will faithfully im
prove it. The lecturer is confessedly a master in
this department. He has won a brilliant reputa
tion, both in Europe and America.

were mislead by an item in Sunday morning's issue,
into manifestations of sincere sympathy for the
worthy pastor of the Second Baptist Church, Rev.
C. JL Irwin, supposing ho had been robbed and, on
discovering the needlessness of sympathy, were
ready to utter the above exclamation.
We do utter it; for we were actually mislead by
the gentleman who gave us our information, and
who was very precise in asserting that Mr.. C. A.

We had our doubts at the time, and made en

three different sources. Bo, with our beet efforts to
be correct, we were mislead and the public partially
so. Therefore, we do not take all the blame, and
feel justified ourself in exclaiming avaunt, them

A petition has been received 1rj the member* of
tho Court from the member* of the Southwestern
bar asking that the Southwestern and PaUnla Cir
cuits he transferred, and not taken up until after
the adjournment of the Superior Courts of those
Circuits. I learn, that it is more than probable that
an order will be passed on the first day of the term,
transferring both of said Circuits to the heel of tho
entire docket. This would have been done on tho
application aforesaid, but tbo Judges did not con
sider that they had the power to pass the order ex
cept in term time.
Tho bar from the Middle Circuit will do well to
note tins,-as the eases from that Circuit will be first
called, if the order transferring the Southwestern
and Pataula Circuits should be passed.
The bar is respectfully referred to the 14th, 30th
and 33d rules of the Supreme Court, which are
strictly enforced, and which require that BHlaof
Exceptions shall distinctly specify the points of
error in the judgment of the Court below, that each
Judgo and the Reporter shall be furnished by Coun
cil for plaintiff in error, with a copy of tha Bill of
Exceptions, and that Council for both plaintiff and
defendant shall famish each Judge and the Report
er with a statement of the points to be made, to
gether with a list of the authorities upon winch
thoyrely. Z. D. HARRISON,

. TUESDAY MORNING, MAY 25, 1809.
Btbb Sutebxor Court.—The May term opened
yesterday morning, with a foil attendance of the
bar. The Grand Jury waa soon organized, when
His Honor Judge Cole, delivered them a brief and
forcible chargo as to their various duties—especially
48 to examining into offences of gunbliog and
houses of ill-fame, stating that be bad received
many communications from mothers, relative to
their sons falling prey to these vices, and asking
that tbo law be rigorously enforced against them.
He also charged them as to examining the books
and accounts of public officers, and the education of
the poor of tho county. Tho jury having retired,
the varioua dock eta were called and causes set down
for trial as counsel desired.
Tho difficulty of getting enough jurors gives
promise of much perplexity to tho Court, as tho
names of many of the citizens of the county arc
not contained in the lists from which the jurors sro
drawn.
At 2)4 o’clock, tbero being no business before tbs
Court, it was adjourned until to-day at 9 o'clock.
We should mention, perhaps, that the criminal
docket will not be taken np until next Monday.
Sxaious as® yxbi Paistui. Acancrr—Porter
Washington, brother of the Postmaster of this city,
a lad of fifteen or sixteen years, met with a serious
and very painfnl accident yesterday afternoon about
sunset, at Huff's Yelocipedo Rink. He had been
thrown from a velocipede and was running across
the track to get out of the way of another that Mr.
Fred. Cunningham was riding at a very rapid gait,
but he ran the wrong way and the wheel of Mr. (Vs
machine struck him in the small of the hade, about
where the short ribs connect with the spinsl column,
fracturing tho ribe and dislocating them. Dr. Not
tingham was immediately called and was attending
him when wo left. The unfortunate lad seemed
to he suffering intensely and uttered the most pit
eous groans.
The accident was altogether unavoidable under
tho circumstances; but we would advise new begin
ners with the machine to keep off the track when
many are riding upon it, as the danger of getting
badly hurt is very great at such times.
Matos’s Court.—On Friday and Saturday morn
ings last tho Mayor was without a case in this court.
Yesterday morning he had a little hut not much bet
ter luck—the docket showing hut three entries.
James Ramsey, an escaped negro convict, was taken
before His Honor who immediately turned him over
to bo carried back to Mniedgeville. For the benefit
of the inmates of tho Penitentiary we would state,
that Macon is the last place they should think of
running to when they manage to get qut, that is, if
they want to stay out.
But to the docket- A fight cost an irate individual
just £20, which he planked down with as much cool
ness and apparently with as much willingness as if
he were buying cotton ad 10 cents per pound.
Henry Boswell, (negro) waa up on a charge of
stealing five dollars from an old negro man. It was
proven on bim beyond a doubt, and he waa sent to
the streets thirty days for the theft, and an addi
tional thirty days for failing to return the money.
Believing that he could not do a better thing than
this, and there being nothing more before the court,
His Honor adjourned.

The weather, so far aa bodily comfort is con
cerned, continues very beautiful indeed. There was
scarcely a breeze stirring yesterday, and yet it was
cool and pleasant in the shade. Quite a contrast
from the weather of Friday and Saturday last, when
it was raining, blowing, blustering and earthquak
ing.
Cuv Soup.—Those who relish a dish of soup as
is soop will be on band at Bvington’a Hotel this
morning at II o’clock sharp. A bowl of choice dam
sonp will be served up, free gratis and for nothing,

Bbhioe Costractoes are interested in a notice
from Mr. C. T. Ward, Ordinary of this county. A
bridge is wanted over she Eeheeannee Creek, on the
Penty road. See notice in this paper.
Auocbt War-tack—This gentleman is the Macon
importer of all the purest and best wines and li
quor* known to our market, and dealer also in the
choicest American liquors. He opened yesterday
an invoice of the moat excellent foreign wines and
liquors ever brought to this city, and received also
a snpply of the celebrated Cincinnati Lager Beer,
the purest, clearest and in every respect the beet
article of the kind we ever saw or drank. In addi
tion to this incomparable stock of foreign and do
mestic liquors, he has lino Swiss Cheese, Bologna
Sausages, Pickled Holland Herrings—the nicest
thing in the way of a fish a man ever ate—and a
great variety of the choicest confections.
If you want anything to appease the demands of
the inner man, in the way of a choice and most
palatable lunch, beverage or stimulant, drop in at
A- Wannacks, 73 Cherry street, and our word for it,
you will need no reminder in future as to the beet
place to go when you are hungry or thirsty. We re
fer the reader with pleasure to Wannack's adver
tisement in this paper, and assure the public that all
there stated is strictly true, for we have personally
tested it. No man man in Macon lms such lager

Wa leans, on good authority, that Mr. Washing
ton has not abandoned the idea of retaining the
poriofficc, (as some suppose) from the fact that a
petition has been circulated to-day in favor of an
other party.
Ths Place.—Biddle's card to-day tells bat half
the story. If you desire to see a place fitted up
with Use increasing demands of elegant taste, go
there. His Soda apparatus is a beauty. The ice

have ever seen in Macon.
