Tide Old Capitol.—The granite steps on the
east side of the old Capitol, which were left in
an unfinished condition on the abandonment of
the State House, were completed lost week. The
building is now, we believe, in perfect order,
and only awaits the time when tho people of
Georgia have an opportunity to pronounce their

old building, Uncle Ben, and you will one day

Professor Blaiser in Berlin, an eminent Ger

of Alexander von Humboldt for the Central

The Masonic Fraternity of Washington coun
ty have purchased the lots in the new cemetery
in Sandersville, to be used as a Masonic burying
ground. A committee has been appointed to
confer with the family of the late Dr. Wm. P.
Haynes, a distinguished Brother, highly esteem
ed by the Fraternity of the State, relative to the
removal of his remains and the erection of a
monument to his memory, for which latter pur
pose the Grand Dodge and Grand Chapter of
Georgia made appropriation some years ago.
Owing to the unprotected condition of the old
grave yard (we regret to say) the erection of
the monument has been deferred until, now.
The work will, we trust, be speedily completed.
Waer.—After so many weeks of chilly weather
summer has burst suddenly upon ns. The last
few days have been quite warm.

deep mortification he felt when Menard, the ne
gro from Louisiana, claimed his seat in the.
Hon.se of Representatives. Golladay. by his

stituents, is making himself exceedingly popu
