The Doctor's visit here has been marked by great
success and usefulness, in many apparently hope

who secure a visit from Dr. R, and suggest to them
that not one shonld fail to hear his instructive and

'fSfR VITAL STATISTICS OF THE UNITED
STATES
Show that periodical fevers and acute chronic dis
orders of tho stomach and bowels, are among tho
most prominent and fatal diseases in this country.
Disobedience to the laws of health, as regards diet;
the use of pernicious stimulants; and the wear and
tear of business excitement, and of “fast life" gen
erally, have much to do with the prevalence of these
maladies in our cities ; while in the West, and
p- especially In the newly opened districts, they are
^ .^chiofly duo to malaraia, unwholesomo water, and
the expoeuro and privation incident to life in new
Now, it is a fact that it is as possible to protect tho
human system against thcee maladies, as to guard
life and property against the incursions of assassins
and thieves. Strengthen the vital organization
with HOSTETTERS STOMACH BITTERS, and it
become* as capahlo of resisting the active principle
of epidemic or endemic disease, as a fire-proof safe
is of resisting the action of combustion. This is
tho experience of thousands who have remained nn-
soathed by malarious disorders in the sickliest sea
sons, while their neighbors, who neglected to tone
snd regulate their systems with this unequalled
medicinal stimulant, have fallen thick and fast
around them. Weakness invites disease. Vigor
repels it. Help nature, to fight the gpod fight with
infection, whether it bo in tho air, tho water, or the
soil, with this matchless preparation—a componnd
of tho rarest vegetable extracts with the purest of
.11 diffusive stimulants.
^ BEAD THESE LINES AND PONDER THEM WELL
Tho host tests of the merits of my proprietary
article is to ascertain what is thought of it at home
where it is manufactured. Such a test Xippman’s
Pyrafuge can well stand, as to-d»y it is decidedly
the favorite remedy for chills and fever, dumb ague
and other diseases of a malarious origin, in the city
of Savannah where it is prepared. The principal
druggtsts of the city would as much think of doing
without castor oil in their stores as to be without
this popular (and deservedly so) remedy. It is a
vegetable preparation free from deleterious drugs,
and Wkta as a tonic upon the entire system, thereby
invigorating the system, so much so as to enable it
to throw off disease. Fyrafnge does not nauseate
or sicken the patient, and can be taken by the most
elicate persons without fear. If should always bo
st hand, as chills snd fever creep apon ns bo
- stealthily that we are not aware of its approach un-
^ til it is upon ns. A word to tho wise is sufficient.—

CITY AFFAIRS.
SATURDAY MORNING, JUNE 5, 18G9.
Tux Pxo-Xio To-day.—There Is to be a rousing
pio-nie to-day at Hunter’s, about nine miles from
n on the Forsyth road. Macon will be largely
represented, and from what we can leant- til Vine-
ville will be thar. It will doubtless bo the pic-nic
of the season, and we have promised about twenty
of the young bloods of Macon that we would be on
hand to take notes; but wo regret to state that our
office duties kept us up so lato last night that we
failed to awake before 9 o'clock this morning, snd
shall, therefore, expect some one of our friends who
may attend to 7Jive us a report of the pic-nic—for
A BxAcxrrux, Frees or Abt.—Prof. B. B. Easton
of Easton’s Commercial College, in this city, has
recently gotten up on parchment, with his matchless
pen and in different colored inks, a Roll of Defiance
Fire Oo. No. 5, which for beauty and taste of design
is ahead of anything in tho way of penmanship wo
have evor met with. Tho names of members are
so inserted in the body of the work that they can be
removed in case of death, resignation or expulsion,
thus making it not only a thing of beauty to deco
rate the walis of their engine house when it shall
have been bnilt, bnt also a thing of practical utility.
It can be seen, we believe, st Feschke’s jewelry
store, on second street. Every active organization
in tho city should havo something of the sort.
Mamsos.—'Wo are pleased to note that Mr.
Thomas Wood, next to the Lanier House, has just
received a fine assortment of Canton floor mattings,
fancy and plain. Now take up yonr old Winter car

Nxw Wheat.—Farmers in this section are now
busily engaged in cutting their wheat. It is said to
be of a very fair quality, though we have not yet
seen any in the market. We learn that the first
i wheat of the season will be received to-day
from Gordon. It was purchased there for a gentle
man of tins city at 91,75 per bushel.

We found the planters generally hopeful of
crop prospects, and heard rtocomplamts except
of backwardness. Com and: cotton look well,
but are behind time several weeks. The crops
are in a better condition than we ever saw them,
and it is generally conceded that this hot weath

them out. - v ■
We met an intelligent gentleman from ilonti-

there are no caterpillars in Florida. He inform

some, mistaken for the caterpillar, has disap
peared, and the cotton plant is healthy and vigo
