IHisrrgrnation in Morgan County.
On yesterday evening we received the partic
ular* of a miscegenation affair in Morgan coun
ty nnd a shooting scrape which resulted from it.
In ltutledge, a small village in Morgan county,
situated on the Georgia Railroad, about Madison,
there has lived for many years a man by tho
name of William Lawson and his family. Mrs.
Lawson has for a long time been in charge of
on eating honso at Rutledge, at which passen
gers on tho Georgia Railroad atop for meals.
About three weekssgoLawson, whole said to be
an idle, drunken follow, hod a quarrel with his
wife and saparafod from her. After leaving
the homo, which was the property of bis wife,
Lawson went to Hvo with a negro woman and
her daughter, whose house wss within but a
short distanoe of his former residenoe and co
habited with tho latter. This disgusting mis
cegenation was carried on in the most open and
unblushing manner, almost under the eyes of
Mrs. Lawson, and excited great indignation
among tho people of the village. On two of
these occasions, as if in way of bravado, he
paraded the streets with his negro mistress on
his arm, and carried her with him to a church.

Crops, etc.
[From Ike Griffin Middle Georgian. 5tk Mat.
Wo rode into the country the other day, going
into Bntts county, and were pleasantly disap
pointed in regard to planting prospects. Farm-
wear a gloomy appearance, wo bcliove, nnd will
not, as a general thing, beliovo themselves as
forinnnto as they really are. From all accounts,
wo were nnder tho impression that wo were com-
into a season of starvation, but, if wo aro a
go of crops, (and wo think wo know a
tiling when wo see it,) onr planters aro
remarkably well. There seems to bo a larger
quantity of wheat planted than heretofore,
throughout this section, and it is looking fine,
being now ready to cut. Oats havo not been
forgotten, and form a good portion of tho crop.
Corn, although not planted in as great quanti
ty as we should liko to see, still has the nppear-
anco of a sufficiency, nnd, as a general thing is
looking fine. Tho first of U10 season was rath
er cold and it was backward, but tho past two
inoensod at this conduct, and deair- weeks of hot weather has brought it out to a
H the community of so demoral- good stand, and if it can bo carried safely
a party of men went to the
these women on last Monday night,
for tho purposo, it is supposed, of warning
tho parties against a continuance of their
present manner of living. Arriving thero,
the men found no one in tho house ox-
t tho women, Lawson having gono into tho
igo. Tho women became alarmed when
they saw their visitors and commenced scream
ing at the top of their voices. Tho noise was
heard by Lawson, who was drinking in a bar
room at the time, and ho rushed to tho place to
acscno his mistress. Lawson making an attack
on tho party as he reached tho house, a general
melco ensued, during which Lawson waswound-
ed by a pistol shot through tho body, tho old
negress also wounded, and her daughter badly
beaten. After tie's had been done tho parties
left tho premises and no further violence was of
fered. Tho people of Rutledge evidently do
not beliovo in miscegenation.

The Crops in S*n(h Georgia.
Oats, in some fields, aro being cut, and in all
are rapidly maturing. They are not tall, but
very sound and good. Somo smut, however,
among them.
Corn is several weeks later than usual, in
some localities, but is growing rapidly. We
havo seen a few tassels and silks, and hope to
see Toasting oars plentiful in our market short
ly. from the fields of our’ farmers.
Cotton is recovering from tho effects of the
cold spring, and, with a continuance of the
present warm weather, will soon bo in a flour
ishing condition. Some of this plant, in this
county, is two feet high, and full of forms.
All the rotton-cane. wo have seen, was des
troyed by tho freezes in April, but that from, the
stalk looks well. Tho crops generally, with but
few exceptions, aro perfectly dear of grass and
woods, and are well plowed.
We are having occasional showers of rain.
We have heard nothing more from tho cater
pillar, and are disposed to beliovo tho reports
concerning it gTeatly exaggerated, especially in
regard to the plantation of Col. Williams, near
Tallahassee. The last Floridan is silent on the
subject.—Itninbridjc Arguf, June 51A.
Cr.org.—The cotton 'crop of this section has
ceased to dio out, and is now growing finely,
though many profess to have poor stands.
The corn is quite small for this season of tho
year, but looks healthy, and with fair seasons
wo may anticipate a harvest sufficient for onr
demands.—CnaUdhooekte Mirror.
The grand encampment of Odd fellows, of
Pennsylvania, at its recent session, votes down
a proposition to strike the word “white" from
the constitution and by-laws of the order. It
•corns that the infernal nigger frenzy has even
penetrated into the conned chambers of this an
cient order—we are happr to say only to be
kicked out.
The Pope received $4,000,000 worth of pres
ents on his anniversary.
| the gross and be picked, our oonntryl
[friends will bo fortunate. On every plantation
it ta evident that crops havo been put in the
ground with more than nsuol care, and (he re
sult is apparent to any one. If anything, our
fanners aro a little over-cropped, on cotton, and
wo fear they may neglect com, to carry the cot
ton successfully—wo hope they will not do *0.
Wo heard some complaint of the general pest,
the freed-labor, and the popular opinion is that
you cannot count on it, at least near town. One
farmer told us he had four, under contract, that
had left him without any provocation, and that
somo of his neighbors had hired them. Our
advice to him was to prosecute any person who
would be guilty of hiring a hand that had left
his contract; and wo reiterate that advice now.
It is the only way to secure labor, and when the
negro finds out that he cannot get work else
where, ho will stick. Tho law in reference to
the matter is to tho effect that any person hiring
or harboring a negro under contract to another,
shall be fined in a snm not exceeding $200, or
bo confined in jail threo months. Therefore,
when one ofjyonr hands is enticedaway, hired or
harbored, have tho party so offending taken up.
If he has no money, he will be incarcerated in
jail, and ho will have a splendid opportunity for
reflection on the evil of his course.

to grow vigorously and beautifully. Experi

fident of a respectable yield, if the present fair
prospect is not blasted by unfavorable .seasons
later. Hands are less given to politics and more

Ayer’s Sarsaparilla,
FOB FUBIFHN0 THE BLOOD.
Tbo repntation this cx.
ccUcnt medicino cnjnyrt,
la derived fkom its tamo,
many of which aro of a
truly marvellous char
acter. Inveterate coses
of Scrofula, where Uit
system seemed uUerlr
given up to corruption,
have yielded to this com
pound of anU-strumoua
virtues. Disorders of a
scrofulous type, and of-
fee liens which arc merely
aggravated by the presence of scrofulous matter,
have been radically cured in nob numerous in
stances, in every settlement in tho country, that tho
public do not need to be biformol hero that it ia in
most eases a specific and absolute remedy.
KcTofolotis poison is one of the moat destructive
enemies of onr race. Often, this unseen and unfett
tenant of the organism undermines the ooastitation,
and invites tho attach of enfeebling or fatal diseases,
without exciting a suspicion of its presence. Again,
it soems to breed InfecSiou throughout the body, and
then, on some favorable occasion, rapidly develop
into one or other of its hideous forms, either on tho
surface or amoog tho vitals, la tho latter, tuber
cles may be suddenly deposited in the lungs or
heart, or tumors formed in tho liver. These facta
make the occasional use of the Sarsaparilla AS a '
preventive, advisable.
It is a mistake to suppose that so long as no erup
tions or humors appear, there must bo no scrofaloua
taint. Thera forms of derangement may never
oeenr, and yet the vital forces of tho body be so re
duced by its subtle agency, as materially to impair
the health and shorten the duration or fife. It is a
common error, also, that scroftila is strictly heredi
tary. It does, indeed, descend from parent to child,
bat is also engendered In persons bora of pure
blood. Low living, indirestMn, foul air, liemiuoua
habits, uncleanliaess, and the depressing viees gen
erally, produce it. Weakly constitutions, where not
fortified by the most constant and judicious care,
are peculiarly liable to it. Yet the robust, also.
Whose turbid blood swells tbo reins with aa appar
ently exuberant vitality, are often contaminated,
'find on the road to Its consequences. Indeed, no
class or condition can depend on Immunity from
it, nor feel insensible to the importance of an effec
tual remedy.
In SI. Anthony’i
for Tetter, Soft '
or visible forms of the dlscssea caoMd primarily by
the scrofulous infection, the Sarsaparilla is so ef
ficient as to be indispensable. And in tbo more
concealed forms, as inD;/rncDVfts.Drosiir. Heart
Disease, Fils, Epilepsy, Neuralgia, nnd. other
affections of tho muscular and nervous systems, tho
Sarsaparilla, through its purifying power, ro-
