Pure Cusioz a» Iztsh PotJtrozs.—A para
graph appeared m tiria'paper yesterday, which our
senior found in the Columbus Bun. stating that a
hard head cabbage bad been received in that city,
from Montgomery, which weighed sixteen pounds.
The paragraph fell under the ere of Mr. H- H. Ells,
of this city, and be called, in a buggy, yesterday
afternoon, to take us out to his garden, just beyond
Bassett's Hill, to show os what sort of cabbages be
had. After a drive Of stoat one mile behind the
fastest little trotter in this section, he set us down
in one of the most extraordinary cabbage patches
are ever saw, in charge of his gardner, Mr. Patrick
Long,
The patch is about one acre in size, and in it we
saw at least fiTe hundred heads of Flat Dutch cab
bage that would average twenty pounds to the head.
Mr. Dong, the gardener, assured ns that within the
last month he has cot several heads that weighed
twenty-three and a half pounds. What does our
senior and the run of the Sun, think of that ? A
sixteen pound cabbage head, indeed! Mr. Senior

Cons.—The demand for this article in Central
and Southwestern Georgia, just now, is unprece
dented. But notwithstanding this heavy demand
the corn dealers of Macon are fully equal to
the emergency, and tho market is abundantly
stocked. There is in market a large quantity of
slightly and some badly damaged cam which can
be bought much bulow tho market rates; but the
price of go od, sound white com is firm at from

Bacon.—There has been an advance of fully the

no excuse for idleness; there is work' for ell, and
for which adequate compensation will be paid. The
demand for labor upon our farms and railroads is
far greater than the supply; and in view of this
fact, there is no excuse for the vagrant; and we are
glad to see that the authorities have well nigh ceased
to tolerate his presence.
When this is ones thoroughly understood by the
vagrant—that his presence will nowhere be tolera
ted, and that if he resorts to crime as a means of
subsistence, there ia a standing reward offered to
anybody who will arrest'him. he will then seek
work, and having no trouble in finding it, he will
soon desert hi* evil way* and by sheer force of
habit become a good laborer and, in time, an honest
one. The process, we think, is very simple and if
adopted will work like a charm.
