Editor* Telegraph; I dont think “censor”
ought to come down so hard on the “newspaper
men” when they publish reports of crops on
both sides, good and bad; we like to hear from
the crops, and it affords us a pleasure to read
such communications, which are generally short
and havo at least that merit if no other.
I am inclined to tho opinion that these little
free and easy communications at this early stage
of the crop can have bnt little influence on the
price of our great staple. I think the cotton
planters and the cotton buyers are too shrewd
to be misled by vague speculations about the
crops of cotton, before the principal cotton
making months come in, which are June, July
and August, in our latitude; and if they de
pended on this source for information, what
use can they make of it, when we see conflicting
reports about the crops ?

letter-carriers in the country had been allowed
to use the new vehicle, but the Government had
not recognized the art of riding tho velocipede
as an indispensable accomplishment for being
admitted to the dvil service; the use of the
two-wheeled carriage was to be left to every
body’s discretion.
The velodpede mania has already spread to

Beautiful Dress—The Way to Show
Goods.
Onr sanctum was invaded on yesterday by
one of our handsomest and most fashionable
lady friends, just for a little chit chat and leave
taking prior to a summer tour. The very hand
some dress in which our cherished friend was
arrayed attracted our attention, and upon in
quiry we learned that what we took for a spring
silk was nothing more nor less than a plaid
gingham from toe looms of toe Eagle and Phce-
nix factory. Notwithstanding toe fact that it
was made up in toe highest style and was set off
by a most graceful figure, toe dress, itself was
smooth of texture ana brilliant of color, and we
have seen nothing since war days, when onr la
dies were arrayed in toe homespun of their own
make, that made ns feel half so independent. It
is not unlikely that this same dress may be
shortly aired in the parlors of the Fifth Avenue
or be made to try its color amid the throngs in
Broadway and Central Park. H so, Georgia
will have reasons to be proud both of toe dress
and the wearer.
We dip the foregoing from the Columbus
Sun and Times, as an illustration of how to show
dress goods to toe best advantage. The Geor
gia belles in war times used to look lovely—in
their homespuns, and we are glad to see they
r-an still shine in goods of domestic manufacture.
