Lnx Ltscrancx.—Ths (abject of insurant* upon
lirea seems to engross the minds of oar people mote
then ever before. At no period have we seen such
so interest manifested aponthe subject, as now ex
ists over the whole country. It is the popular idea
of the day. You can scarcely find a person that is
insurable but what has a policy, or intends some
day to get one. Policies are issued, not only to
benefit the heirs of the dead, but to benefit the liv
ing, by insuring the payment of a certain sum at a
given age. Husbands and wives are insuring joint-
ly for the benfit of their children. No institutions
are calculated, in a pecuniary point of view, to bene
fit mankind more than well conducted life Insur
ance Companies. To our young men they take the
place of Barings banks. The payment of a small
sum each year, not only assures a large sum at the
end of a few years, but in case of death, his friends
and relatives are the beneficiaries of that which,
perhaps, would place them above the want that
would have been felt had it not been received. We
cannot see how any one who has even a small in
come can delay insurance upon bis life.
There are many insurance companies, and all of
them are considered good so far as we know, but
we think preference should be given to our bon th
em companies, when known to be strong and man
aged by prudent men. We have them; let us pat
ronize them. We think our people wifi. They seem
to feel that it is a duty to do so. We are informed
that the Cotton States life Insurance Company,
only recently started in our city, has, since the first
of Hay, issued near 150 polices, and are now issu
ing from five to sir per day. This is as it should
be. Let our home institutions prosper. Let our
peoplo encourage them and build them up, until we
shall become an independent people, upon matters
of insurance as well as upon all others.
Fauwra'a Academy.—This institution is situated
some eight or ten miles on the Houston road, and
two miles from Seago's Station on the Southwestern
railroad, in what is known as the Rutland District.
We are thus explicit in locating the Academy, be
cause there will be eomo very interesting exercises
there on Friday next, June 25th, and among others
we would mention that Rev. Dr. David Wills, of
this city, is to deliver a lecture; Ur. S. W. Goode
will examine his school publicly; there will be a
sumptuous dinner prepared, of which the friends
of the institution and visitors will be cordially invi
ted to partake; and at night there will be an exhi
bition in tho way of tableaux, charades, etc., to
gether with an examination of the class in music.
We dare say all who attend will spend the day and
evening most pleasantly, and have a “feast of rea
son and flow of souk”
The News Depot will be open until 10 o'clock for
the benefit of city patrons.
Pzx Sport.—It takes all sorts of people to make
(world; and the list isn't at all complete unices
the no-sort—numerically not an inconsiderable class
—is included. A majority of mankind, as things
go and appear, are not marked by any special char
acteristics. Their emblem is a cypher, their achiev-
menta a blank, their lives an inanity. Circumstances
not only govern many people, but they make noth
ing of them and keep them there severely. The
rank of parties, associations, churches and all that,
think for the file, and substantially act for it. If it
takes all sorts of people to make the world. It takes
only one to direct its management. It is all right
if there is a big head and good heart in the man-
agement, but if not the chances arc that it will be
all wrong. If afflicted with doubts about tbo mat
ter, gather up a few samples and see for yourself.
Troubles, jjke wedlock, never come singly. The
moment a man tumbles down every body rushes to
kick him on his unwelcome descent. The world

GENERAL DEBILITY IS NATURE’S APPEAL
FOR HELP.
Thousands of persona without any specific ail
ment, are the victims of languor and lassitude. The
unthinking are apt to confound thin apedes of iner-
tion with laziness; whereas, it usually arises from
a want of organic energy, for which the subjects of
it are no more responsible than the near-sighted are
for their defective vision. Such persons, although
they may be free from pain, are as truly invalids,
and as much in need of medical aid, as if they were
tormented with the pangs of scute disease. They
require a tonic and alterativo, that will ronso
and regulate their torpid organizations. In cases
of this kind HOSTETTERS STOMACH BITTERS
produce an immediate and most favorable effect.
The debilitated and desponding valetudinarian, who
feels as if lie were hot half alive; who shuns com
pany, and lias no relish cither for business or pleas
ure, is metamorphosed, by a brief comae of this
most potent vegetable invigorant, into quite a dif
ferent being. The change effected by the BITTERS,
in his bodily and mental condition, is a surprise to
himself and to his Mends. He mopes no longer;
the active principle of life, which seemed to have
died out of him, is re-awakened, and he feels like
a new man. Remembering that debility is not only
an Infliction Itself, but an invitation to disease, no
time should be lost in recruiting the broken-down
system with this choicest and most potent of all
tonics and nervines.
. A Wnoxo Ironzasiox Oorrzctsd.—Many persons
believe that there is no valuo in anything that does
not eomo from “the North.” How humiliating!
However, this impression is being gradually cor
rected. It is bow admitted that no remedial agent
lias ever been discovered. North or South, that pos
sesses, in so eminent a degree, the power of eradi
cating from the system all foul distemper, as Da.

“I have not had time to notice the particular por
tions of the ‘Night Scenes of the Bible’ which strike
me moet favorably. I am much pleased with the
Book, and think it well suited to family reading and
calculated to do good.” Jno. M. Beckwith,
Bishop of the Protestant Episcopal Church of
Georgia.
As pastors of Churcbee in this city, it affords us
pleasure to ssv that from all the information we can
gather, the “Night Scenes from the Bible,” ly Dr.
March, is a most interesting and valuable work. It
is free from denominational bias; and m a presenta
tion, in an original form and beautiful style, of
many of the most important and interesting events
in the Bible.
W© recommend it to the members of our congre
gations. L W. Warren,

A brief examination of “Night Scenes In the Bi
ble” has led me to form a favorable opinion of its
merits. Bev. Dr. March, the author, has here por
trayed. with peculiar simplicity rod pathos, some of
the'most sublime and touching scenes m Biblical
bistoiv. These striking sketches, in point of hter-
arv excellence and mechanical execution, may be

Tlie best tests of the merits of my proprietary
article is to ascertain wlrat ie thought of it at homo
where it is manufactured. Such a test Lippman’s
Pyrafuge can well stand, aa to-day it is decidedly
tbs favorite remedy for chills rod fever, dumb ague
rod other diseases of a malarious origin, in the city
of Savannah where it is prepared. The principal
druggists of the city would as much think of doing
without castor oil in their stores as to be without
this popular (rod deservedly so) remedy. It is a
vegetaUo preparation free from deleterious dragB.
and acts as a tonic upon the entire system, thereby
invig^tating the system, so much so as to enable it
to throw-off disease. Pyrafuge does not nauseate
or sicken the patient, and can be taken by the most
elioate persona without fear. If should always be
at hand, as chills and fever creep upon us so
stealthily that we aro not aware of its approach un
til it is upon ns. A word to the wise is sufficient.—
