THE SEASON OF EXHAUSTION.
No matter how vigorous by nature the system and
tti* constitution may be, they must necessarily suffer
more or less from the depleting effects of the tem
perature of mid-summer, unless strengthened and
sustained by wholesome tonic treatment. The ex
tra pressure upon the vital forces must be met and
counterbalanced by an extra resistant power; the
mrosual and rapid consumption of tbs animal fluids
by profuse perspiration must be compensated by
the perfect digestion and assimilation of the food
taken into the stomach, from which both the fluids
and the solids of the body are derived. Otherwise
the physical strength daclines, and the mind, sym
pathizing with the machinery through which it acts,
becomes depressed and enervated. A btotclaxt
is therefore absolutely required at this season—not
a violent one, calculated to produce febrile excite
ment, but tomrlhlng tehleh will rtrruU atul rein-
fore* the vholt organization in proportion to the
extraordinary drain to tehleh the torrid heat s«6-
fret* it.

SATURDAY MORNING, JULY 10, 18C9.
Mzirmto or thz Executive Cojocttee.—The Ex
ecutive Committee on the State Fair met yesterday
afternoon, in the office of the State Agricultural So
ciety, Mr. A. L. Maxwell in the chair. The follow
ing gentlemen were present: Messrs. Maxwell,
Grier, Collins, Whittle, OSear, Plant, Gustin, Win-

The minutes of tho last meeting were read and
approved. i > * . trt fc
The Committee on Grounds then reported that
tho grounds for liolding the Fair had been surveyed,
and the map drawn. The Committee suggested that
no work bo commenced until an estimate of the
probable cost had been made. Tho report and sug-

On motion, Messra. Whittle, Plant and Gas tin
were appointed a committee of three, to petition
the City Council of Mason for tho right to control
that portion or tho City Reserve known as the
‘Trotting Park," for a period of ten years.
Tbs meeting then adjourned.
We might not inappropriately state that Gen.
Howard, of the Frcedmcit’s Bureau, is embarrass
ing, to some extent, tho action of the State Fair
Executive Committee, by urging certain claims of
the Bureau upon the Laboratory, and by protesting
against the transfer of tho buildings and grounds
to tho Stato Agricultural Society until said claims
are settled. It will be seen by our press dispatches
of yesterday from Washington, that the Laboratory
has boen transferred by tho Secretary of War to the
Society until the first of January -next, and the
question arise*, what, after that time, is to be done
with the Laboratory and grounds, and the improve
ments upon both, which the Executive Committee
propose to make, for holding the Fair in November?
Will it pay to go to the expense of ten or fifteen
thousand dollars in fitting up the Laboratory and
grounds, for the putpoeo of holding but one Fair,
and after that, transfer the property and improve
ments back to the government ? Will the govern
ment refund the money thus expended • by our
people, or will it charge them ten or fifteen thou
sand dollars rent for buildings which are now un
tenantable? These are questions that should be
clearly and definitely settled before the Executive
Committee act in the premises, or expend a dollar
toward patting the Laboratory in repair.
Banos and Corns—From the 10th of Juno last to
the 4th inst, inclusive, there have been received at
this point over tho Macon and Western Railroad
879,747 pounds of bacon, and 66,429 bushels of
corn. The bacon has been sold to the planters at
tlio lowest calculation for at least 19 cents per
pound, which makes this article alone cost them for
twenty-four days $167,161 93. Tho com has been
sold for (1 25 per bushel—something over, perhaps,
but certainly nothing under—which cost the plan
ters for the twenty-four days, $83,036 25. Ho that
for this abort period of time, the planters of Mid
dle and Southern Georgia have paid out for these
two artioles alone, $250,198 1H, at the lowest cash
price.
Many planters have bought their com and bacon
for the last month or two. on warehouse accep
tance, and consequently have paid higher prices
than those upon which wo have based onr calcula
tions, making tho two articles cost, for the twenty-
four days specified, nearer $300,000 than tho amount
abovo given. And still the cry of the planter is for
mare com and bacon, whilst he carefully hoes his
cotton and speculates upon its value next fall.
The demand for both bacon and com is now
strong in this market and the prioes of both tend
npward. Corn is telling liy the carload at $1 35 per
bushel and retailing at $140 from store; so that if
the demand for July should be equal to that of
June, it will cost planters about $100,000 to pay
Macon merchants for com alone the present month.
How much mare they have paid for com and bacon
in other markets we hare no means for ascertaining;
but we think ws have abundantly shown in this and
other articles on the same subject, that oar-planters
made but little clear money on their last year's cot
ton crap, notwithstanding the princely sum they
received for it.

Acnvx.—Whatever may be the condition of the
general market of Macon rad of things in general
hereabouts, there is, at least, one class of men who
are exceedingly actjvo at tho present time, rad they
are the brick-layers. The several large brick build
ings now going up in the city keep the last one of
this daw of our mechanics busy from dawn till
dark, and the ring of their trowels are heard on
all sides. We do not know of a place in tho South
where a good mechanic can do better, Just at this
time, than in Macon. Indeed, there is a demand in
Macon for good mechanics of all kinds, but partic
ularly so for brick-layers and carpenters.

r PHE attention of tho public it specially invited to
X the unparalleled claims of these celebrated and
popular Spring*. To those who have visited them
they need no recommendation. But a uniform ex
perience of more than ten yean having fully demon
strated their superior 'virtues, demands that their
merits should be more widely known, and their ben
efits more lately extended. Hundreds ot visitors can
testify to their healing efficacy and their wonderful
medicinal properties. In mu&o uLStanccs their effeou
upon cnfceolod. emaciated systems, and delicate con
st! tut ions of both sexes, have been almost miraculous.
ThC followinc signal advantages of tho?e Springs
over all other watering places will commend them-*
selvest-i all intelligent minds:
.l*t. They aro located in the corporate limits of tho
city of Newnan, ono of the moat healthy, pleasant
and delightful towns in Georgia. Uere there are ex
cellent Schools. Churches and social advantages un
surpassed anywhere. The people are genial, polite,
cultivated mud refined. The ladies of Newnan can-
not be surpassed hy any community.
2d. These Springs nro directly accessible by rail-
5,within a Tew hundred yards of the Atlanta And
West Point Railroad. This will save Hack aud Coach
fare, and tho inconvenience of transportation to re
mote rural districts. There is. also, a Telegraph
Office, which will put visitors in daily and hourly
communication with their homes in the cities.
!M. Board can be obtained at two excellent hotels,
or in pleasont private families, at from to per
month, which is less thau half the averago of board at
other popular watering places. The fuciliiies for good
fare are equal to any in the country.
4th. As to tho mineral waters themselves, they need
onlf to be tested to satisfv any unprejudiced mind of *
their superior merits. Their medicinal effeota will
be experienced immediately. They are a powerful
tonio; giving a good appetite and building up an en
feebled constitution from the commencement of
their use.
5th. Add to all thwo considerations the advHntages
of polite and pleasant society; a wonderfully bracing
and salubrious climate; many sources of pleasant re
creation. and the fact that Newnan it one of the best
aud cheapest retail markets (for every variety of
goods) in the South, aud it may be safely affirmed
that no place can present such an array of attractions
to visitors as this. We nsk but a trial to satisfy any
one. Those wishing a choice of homes should be sure
to co too early, us wo export to bo crowded with visi
