this season has established this fact, and hence a
number'of gentlemen, composed of a few of our
largest capitalism, bays formed themselves into a
company for the purpose of establishing in this city,
on an extensive scale, a fertilizer mannfactoty—a

planters may implicitly rely. The company will

We understand that the present buildings of the

obtained for the purpose, in the event that the Cen

have been erected on the old Conrt-bonee site.
i This will be a most convenient and eligible site
for the operations of the Fertilizing Company, and
we dare say the buildings npon it are ample for the
purpose, and can be bought very low when the Cen

shops to this side of the river.
The near enterprise will be started on a cash capi

The Tcbeeb Casa.—Hie interest taken in this
case is unabated, particularly so among the negroes,
mid from first to last ths Conrt room has been
crowded with them. There are . few incidents con
nected with tho cage which are remarkable, to aay
tho least of them. It seems that the negroes, en
masse, have taken the Turner side of the question,
and those of them who have been for the last twelve
or fifteen months the most intimate, bosom friends
of Swsyze, from the very moment he divulged Tur
ner’s secret, turned against him, and are now ready
to swear that Swayze is anything for tho purpose of
exonerating Turner.
N'in 6-tenth* of the negro witnesses an Saturday,
who swore that they would not believe Swsyze
out dinger or inconvenience, the extraordinary
drain. If they me not in such a condition, the in
dividual becomes languid and low-spirited.
The main thing is to keep tbf digestive apparatus
in good working train—for if tho stomach, the pur
veyor of tbs system, does Us doty thoroughly, the
liver, the bowels, the brain and the nervous system,
being duly nurtured, will be likely to do theirs. In
view of these facts, it la manifest that. powerful
and wholesome, vegetable tonic like HOSTETTEB’B
STOMACH BITTERS, is especially required st this
enfeebling season. It is the most admirable of Ml
corrective, and lnrigorants, mid for this reason—it
does not OTcr-stimulato the system. The propor
tions of aperient, tonic and stimulating components
are so Judiciously graduated, that the prooessss of
inrigomtion mid purification go on simultaneously,
and no nodus excitement is created in the circula
tion or tbs brain. All unmodkated stimulants, how-
late period of time, his chums and friends; and it is
a fact, patent, that nearly all of these witnesses
who impeached Swsyze could not find a dozenrs-
spoctablo or tine men in ths county who would bo-
lievs them under oath. It was tho most striking
illustration of the compliments once exchanged be
tween a kettle and pot that waa ever seen. One or
two of the witnesses who might be believed on oath,
hesitated before they Impeached Swsyze, and did so
with a sort of mental reservation. Hon. Samuel T.
Gove refused positively to do so, and in answer to
tho question by tbs counsel for Turner, ss to wheth
er he wonld believe Swsyze on oath, according to
what this community thought of him, Mr. Govo re
plied by saying that he could only swear -for him
self, and if his own private opinion was wanted he
could givo it; bat he could not and wonld not im
peach, under oath, any man’s private character Upon
what other pooplo might say of it.
It was a remarkable fact that Swayze’s old party
and colored friends were the quickest and readiest
witnesses, to impeach him. If nothing else, this

Drought In Lauren*.
Laurens Cotxtt, Ga., July 16, 1869.
Bditort Telegraph : I propose to offer you a
few facta in regard to the agricultural interest
of this, tbe northern portion of this county.
The spring was unusually cold, which gave
crops a little start! But good stands were ob
tained and the light rains and pleasant wcathor
enabled planters to cultivate their crops with
care, as the land was neither too wet
nor too dry, and in ihi* fine case it brought
crops up to the 20th of June in as fine condition
as heart could wish.
About this date tho soil became dry, and since
the subsoil has been exhausted of all moisture.
We have not had enough-rain since onr crops
were planted to pudde in the plowipan s track.
The present condition of our crops, “npon
which has been spent all our cash capital and a
large share of our credit, and much labor,” has
blasted our fond hopes of a remuneration even
baring the cotton speculator, caterpillar and tax
gather.
Taking all these things into consideration, it
requires more genuine religion, fortitude and
courage than most men have to refrain from
repining when the promises are viewed with &
true prospective light*
Our cotton has wilted, withered and aborted.
Com is dying in the field. Grass is almost dry
enough to bum, and old brindlo no longer fills
Dinah's cup from the lacteal fountain.
Enough! enough, Mr. Editor. I can write
do more.
The above is a txuo statement, of facta within
an area of 16x25 miles in diameter. There are
a few neighborhoods and isolated farms which
lave not suffered for rain at all.
" Respectfully, C.
Good Accounts from Mitchell.
_ Camilla, Ga., July 17, 1809.
Editor* Telegraph: Not having seen any
thing lately in your paper in regard to the crops
in this section of Southwestern Georgia, I feel
it my duty to inform the readers of the Tele,
crape that I never saw crops look finer, nor
a better prospect for an abundant yield, than
at present. On a -visit to Albany a few days
ago I noticed particularly the crops of Mr. T.
AL Cherry and CoL Robert J. Bacon, and I
must cheerfully say I never saw better in all my
life. We are still having plenty of rain, and the
freedmen are working well to keep out of the
grass. Respectfully, Correspondent.
3:16.—A young Mr. Grobb, or this dty, made tho
mile at Huff's Yelodpeda Rink, on Saturday after
noon last, in three minntee and sixteen seconds.
The best time recorded in tho United States is 2:53;
but it was made on a dead and solid level. The
rink in this dty is not a deiad level, nor is the track
very firm or solid. With these disadvantages in
view, we do not see that Grubb's time is mads short
of the beet ever made on a velocipede. As it is,
bowover. he is twenty-three seconds behind. He
made the first three rounds of the rink, when on
this mile run, in just one -minnta—a Hiafmnce of 55o
yard*.
Quite a large crowd—* good portion of it ladies—
were at the rink on 'Saturday, and it may he con
sidered one of the established institutions of the
dty, and a popular on a, too, with all classes.

The Crops.—Up to this time, our crops, both
com and cotton, have been doing well. For a
few days they have been failing in 3omo locali
ties, from toe intense heat and .eon tinned
drought. Now is a trying time to the corn. A
few days of continued dry weather -will cut the
crops very short. With a plenty of rain it will
be abundant '
