Disttsbasc* AT BmvgR Bex, Au Mr. Monte, a
conductor on the Huaooguu ftr«noh of the South
western Railroad, brought to this city, yesterday,
the particulars of a very eerkraa disturbance which
oocorred on Wednesday teat at a small place called
Saver Bun, on the Mobile and Girard Railroad, in
the Southern portion of Russell county. Alabama,
and about thirty miles west of Columbus.
It appears that there was a political meeting for
some purpose being held at Silver Bun, on Wednes
day. at which there was quite a large crowd of ne
groes. a few white Radicals and a dozen or so white
citizens of the place aad neighborhood. .
A white Rachcal speaker, named Terry, or a name
similar in sound, occupied the speaker's stand; but
he was so exceedingly abusive, outrageous and in
cendiary in his remarks that some one in the crowd
interrupted him by suggesting that he wae dis
gracing himself and injuring bis party by such lan
guage as he -was then using. Immediately a big
buck negro, who was standing near the speakers
stand, drew his revolver, and, hrandiihing it about
bis head, threatened to kin any man who inter
rupted the speaker on the stand. The Sheriff of
the county being present approached the negro and
ordered him to put up his pistol or ho would be ar
rested. He replied to the Sheriff In a threatening
and abusive manner, when the Sheriff attempted the
Arrest. The negro therf fired upon the Sheriff, the
ball cutting off one of the fingers of his left hand;
7ffiis so'exasperated that officer that he drew bis re
volver and shot the negro once or twice and downed
him. • In an instant the whole crowd became excited,
the more disorderly portion taking the wounded or
dead negro's put, when a general melee and fight
ensued, in which eight or ten persons were wounded.
The conservators of the peace, however, were soon
masters of the field, and the scoundrel who brought
on the difficulty, together with his villainous clan,
beat a hasty retreat, and quiet and order was again
We copy the following from the Dawson I
Journal of Thursday: !
As ire go to press, wo learn that John G. Leo,
who was charged with, and tried for the mur
der of Captain Bichard H. Fletcher, and upon
whose case the jury made a mistrial at the last
term of our Superior Court, was killed last
night in jail. The parties were disguised, and
are unknown. The keys to the jail were taken
from the jailor at the pistol's mouth, and the
throat of the prisoner cut. We have not time
or space to go into details of this tragedy, and
regret exceedingly that we have even had cause
for its mention.
He having paid the debt, oar opinion cannot
injure his cause now. and while we are free to
say that we have no doubt but that he was
the murderer of our worthy citizen, Capt. F.,
and that justice cried aloud for hii life, we
disapprove of mob law, and think that the law
of the land should hare been allowed to take its
course, and its decision abided by and held sa
cred. Our community much regret the oc
currence.

with two distinct crimes.
1st. With attempting to pass, in January last, a
counterfeit *100 bank note.
2d. With complicity with Marian Harris in circula
ting spurious money.
In the opinion of the Court the manner in which
the accused obtained the 8100 note is satisfactorily
accounted for, and his subsequent scHgn in tb«
matter is entirely consistent with fhe theory of
innocence. " ' ,
With regard to the second charge, Marian Hams,
in her confession, explktUy denies that the accused
had any knowledge whatever of the spurious money
in her possession, and tho testimony of Mr. Cowl&n,
a government officer, shows that the facts in pos
session of the government, corroborates the state
ment of Marian Harris, by which the gnflt is thrown
on other parties.
It is therefore ordered: That the prisoner, H. M.
Turner, be discharged from arrest and his bonds
men released.

House of Lords. Placards appear on tho walls to

could make some money by it. We took the axe

and came to where I had a little pile of light-wood
