SUMMER PERUfl—HOW TO ESCAPE THEM.
It will not do to trifle with tho health in hot
weather. Vigor oozes through the skin at even-
pore, and it is by physical vigor only tiiat unhealthy
can be baffled and repelled. The vital
s are evaporated in perspiration. Intense
i a man into a self-acting pomp, and
the moisture that is pumped oot of him is derived
from the well-springs of life within him. There is
great need, therefore, that these sources of physi
cal strength should be in a condition to bear, with
out danger or inconvenience, the extraordinary
drain. If they are not in such a condition, tho in
dividual becomes languid and low-spiritod.
The main thing is to koep tho digestivo apparatus
in good working train—for if tho stomach, the pur
veyor of the system, does its duty thorongldy, the
liver, the bowels, tho brain And tho nervoua rjHtcm.
I>eing duly nurtured, wfll be likely to do theirs. In
view of these facta, it is manifest that a powerful
and wholeeomo vegetable tonic like H03TETTER 8
STOMACH BITTERS, la especially required at this
enfeebling season. It ia tho most admirablo of all
correctives and invigorants, and for this reason—it
does not ovcr-stinmlato tho system. Tho propor
tions of aperient, tonic and stimulating components
are so judiciously graduated, that the processes of
invigoratMa and purification go on Bimnltanooaaly,
and no undue excitement ie cre&tod in the circola-
tion or the brain. All unmodicat&l htimalanta. how
ever pure, excito the pule© and the nervous Hvetem.
Tlieir exhilarating effect is temporary, and when it
pauses off the physical and mental depression they
were employed to remove returns in an aggravated
form. But this is not tho case when HOSTETTER'3
RITTERS are taken as a stomachic and nervine.
gTbe medicinal herbs, roots and gnms with which
r tbajr arc impregnated, neutralize tho exciting prin
ciple of the rye spirit which forms their huis, and
which is in itself tho most wholeeomo of all tho
varieties of alcohol.

before it reaches a price that win make them open

It is heavy, wide and strong.

suggest to all oar planters tbe propriety of covering
their cotton completely with bagging. This will
prevent tbe outrageous stealing that we zead of in

From Talbot County.
Tha Talbot ton West Georgia Gazotto, of the
22d, has the following upon tho crops in that
county: -
The crops in the Valley and the Pleasant Hill
district are undeniably splendid. Tbe rains
have >ecn in season, and the com product prom
ises to he the largest for many years. Cotton
is in fine condition. Fertilizers have been used
to a great extent by the farmers of that section
and their present surroundings would indicate
that they are to be repaid four-fold for their
trouble. Immediately around Talbotton wo are
suffe
and
gtyfi greatly for rain. Vegetation is parched,
gardens nearly ruined. Com is falling rap
idly and the crop will be much shortened. .Since
the abovo was written we have had a fine rain,
and matters now look more hopeful.
Our friend S. B. Baldwin, Jr., reports the
crops inHart’s district as in excellent condition.
Not suffering much for rain. There are five
new residences going np in that beat An evi
denee that the people are prospering. Glad to
hear it We also hear good news from the Bed-
bone district, concerning the crops. Old Tal
bot is all right.
Boll Worm.—Weleam, from CapL C. Calhoun,
that the boll worm has made its appearance, in
small numbers, in the vicinity of Box Spring.
The Captain also informs ns that there is on his
plantation a cotton stalk which has over 3O0
bolls and squares.
Singular.—We counted nine wagons, in one
dsy, passing cmr windows, on the way to Per
sons' Mill, with Western com. That com is
now worth $1 65 per bushel in Talbotton. We
have heard it whispered that people intend
raising their own com just as soon as they get
rich raising cotton. Pre-cdse-ly.
Largs Wheat Crop.—Judge James D. Wood-
all, of Pleasant Hill, this year made 614 bushels
of wheat, and threshed it out himself. The
Judge calls himself a small farmer—running
only four plows, we believe.
LeVest College.—We learn that Rev. Henry
D. Moore, of Albany, Ga., has been elected
President of LeVert College. We hope the fall
term may open with at least one hundred pupils.
Slight Mistake.—A correspondent of the
Chronicle and Sentinel, writing on the fence
question, says Georgia has an area of 5.8,000,000
acres, only eight or nine millions of which are
under cultivation. This is too much by over
20,000,000 acres—onr State having an extent
58,000 square miles, or 37,120,000 acres.
Miss Otis, a conspicuous Boston beauty and
belle, drives a tandem turnout at Swampscott,
the aristocratic Massachusetts resort.
In Great Britain to a population of 24,363,000
persons, there are 36,200 ministers of all de
nominations, 34,700 churches and chapels.
Segar dealers are learning that they can sell
at retail only from the boxes in which the 96-
gara were originally stamped.

Dr. W. C. Couden. Louisville. Ky.:
My Dxak Sib—Being new satisfied that my face is
perfectly cured, I write to say so, and to thank, you
for your skillful treatment of it. Though it baa been
six months since it healed, I have forborne writing
you because of the common belief that cancerous dis
eases cannot be cured—that they can only be pallia
ted or coverd up for a time to re-appear with more
than original virulence, and I thought that I would
give my case the full benefit of all that doubt
I will state that in 1863 a pimple made its appear
ance on the base of my noee, near the eye; it con
tinued to increase in malignity until 1867. when I be
came seriously alarmed about it. Alter submitting to
the treatment of several physicians until Jane, 1868,
without benefit but getting worse all the time—I went
to Louisville to consult you. I had become satisfied
that a speedy cure must be effected or it would soon
profe fatal. By this time the cancer had extended
almost to the corner of tbe eye, involving its nerves,
and to the top of the nose, and was rapidly growing
more malignant in its character. I placed myself
under your treatment; and in lees than four months
was cured and have so continued now six months. I
believe that I am indebted entirely to your skill for
that cure, and will, as a matter of duty, recommend
any one afflicted with an/ kind of cancerous disease
to you for treatment, believing that if cure or relief
is possible you can afford it. Believe me, very truly
and gratefully, your?,
T. A. HARROW.
