las Dkclxxk ec Cottox.—The present decline in
cotton i« nothing more than wm to here been ex
pected. from the extraordinary rapidity with ^ hich
the product baa t«ecn thrown upon the market this
season. Never before in tbe history of Gecrpia.
and, we may gay. in the littery of cotton planting
at the South, has cotton opened upon the stalks
fcarl.er or in greater abundance than it ha- this year,
the causes for which have been frequently stated in J
these columns; and never bef ire, we may add, Lave J
planters been stimulated more to burry forward the ,
crop than th**y have been this season. During tbo
lint two weeks after the market of the new crop |
opened here middlings were firm and in strong de
mand at 30 cents—something fancy readily com- |
minding 31; but it was dear to our mind, judging
from tbe tenacity with which the New York market |
stock to 35 cents, during the last month and for a
portion of Has, that when tho price changed it
was certain to fall below those figures, and that
when tbe decline did commence it would be a most
difficult matter to tell where it would stop if cotton
continued to pour in upon the market as it has
done.
Tima far the planter has suffered no material lota
by the decline; and many of them having taken up
their warehouse acceptances, can now proceed leis
urely with the gathering of the remainder of their
crop*, and when the work is dona, which will cot be
long first, they can quietly fold their arms over their
safely stored cotton bags and make money by wait
ing for the reaction, which ia aa sore to come as that
the price of ap article ia regulated by the supply and
demand.
In the cotton market here yesterday, there seemed
to be almost a panic among planters, and they
ruahed their cotton upon the market recklessly.
Such action on their part will be regretted before
the season doses, we fear; for it tends to force
down the price whether it wants to fall or not, and
it is really playing into the hands of the bears of
New York. If all the planters would bold their cot
ton now for about ten days—not one or two of them,
but all—tbe present decline would be checked, and,
at the end of that time, we ahonld have an active
market at an advance npon present prices; whereas,
if the staple ia rushed upon the market for another
week or ten days aa it baa been, it will not surprise
ua to see prices fall to 20 osnta in Macon. Look to
your interests, planters, and don't become excited
or uneasy. We assure yon that yon have tho inside
trade on the bears this season, if yon win exerdae
proper judgment and discretion in bolding on to
your cotton. Part with it now only to protect your
credit and honor, and for nothing else; bat do not,
we entreat you, rush it, pell-mell, npon a declining
market, to your own detriment and tbe injury of th*
courftry.
Matos's Court.—Wo don't know whether the pro
ceedings in this Court are, like almost everything
else, regulated by tbe oottoo market or not It ap
pears, however, that such ia the ease, aa they have
been nmunally active since the rush of the new cot-
£ crop to market set in. For tbe last two moro-
the docket in this Court has been very heavy,
tbe attendance good and the proceedings lively..
Tbe first cam called yesterday was One under the
head of fighting against two female “wards of tho
nation,” named Ann Alexander and Ann Adair. It
was continnod. in (he absence of an important wit-
Bas.
Tho noxt was a caeo of obtaining money under
false pretences, against a negro named Willis West
He was overhauled, plying his vocation, by officers
Pridgen and Wood. Die evidence was dead against
Willis, and he was remanded for a warrant.
Wylie Williams was then brought up standing for
resisting an officer, and after cashing a little bill of
five dollars in tho shape of a fine, ho quietly re
tired.
James Brown, a auspicious character and “dead
beat,” was ordered on the streets for thirty days,
far obtaining money and other article* from several
citizens under film pretence# and representation*.
He registered at the Brown Hoorn on the 11th inat.,
and then started oat in the city to look up tbe mem
bers of s certain secret and benevolent organization,
and represented himself first from the Barnwell
District of 8ootb Carolina, and then from Sanndero-
vitle, Georgia, and pretended to be afflicted in vari
ous ways and endeavoring to get borne. He
ceeded in arousing the sympathies of a faw gentle
men who generously gave him assistance; bat his
after conduct proved him to be an imposter, and be
was arrested at tbe Brown House on Monday night,
and disposed of by the Mayor aa above stated.
The last cam on the docket was by long odds the
richest thing developed in this Court in a long while.
It was entered on tbe docket under the heed of dis
orderly conduct, and was against R. Green, and Ann
Held, colored brodder and sister in on* of tbe col
ored churches. Tbe cam was dtaiulaaad, but the
testimony which it elicited was altogether loo heavy
for them columns, and, in a general smile through
out tbe room, in which tbe Mayor himself joined,
Court adjourned.

READ THESE LINES AND PONDER THEM WELL
The beet teuta of the merits of my proprietary
article is to ascertain what is thought of it at home
where it is manufactured. Sach a test Lippman's
Pynfuge can well stand, as to-day it is decidedly
the favorite remedy for chills and fever, dumb ague
and other diseases of a malarious origin, in the city
of Savannah where it is prepared. The principal
&uggt*t* of the city would as much think of doing
without castor oQ in their stores as to he without
this popular (and deservedly bo) remedy. It is
vegetable preparation free from deleterious drugs,
and acts A a tonic upon th© entiro system, thereby
wlpnlhgthe aystem, so much so as to enable it
to throw off disease. Pyrafuge does not nauseate
or sicken the patient, and can bo taken by the moat
delicate persons without fear. It should always be
at hand, as chills and fever creep upon us so
stealthily that we are not aware of its approach un
til it is upon us. A word to th© wiae is sufficient.—

construction ia aa myateriqija to the public as it ia

Wo confess that we do im understand what ia going

gentlemen of the city with whom we have conversed

at sunset began tbe Jewish Day of Atonement, and
promptly at that boor, all the business houses of
our Israelitiah friends in the city were dosed, and
will continue so until sunset this evening—the Jew

Injunctions.—Wo have heard much and bad much
to say, recently, about injunctions. Nearly eTcry
railroad company in Georgia, to say nothing of their
stockholders, have indulged in tbe luxury liberally
the present year; but there are a good many quiet,
plain people, particularly among the colored popula
tion, who are wholly ignorant of what an injunction
ia. To enlighten this Utter class, the following dia
logue U dipped from an exchange:
Bob—What do day mean by “juneahun,” I hear de

Bob— Bat dat ain't rite,
Cuff'V—I ain’t gwine to argor dat pint. You
most ask some dem big lawyers bow dat is!
Nothing in It.—There was an unusual bustle and
etir on the street* yesterday, and several of the
more prominent business thoroughfares were block
ed op with all manner of wagons and vehides: hat
on enquiring after the trade of the day we found
that there was nothing in the apparent activity, and
bustle, as a majority of the planters in town failed
to sell their cotton, preferring to store for awhilo
rather than throw their produce on a doll and de
clining market.
