Tai-dotton. September S.'S lhCO.
Editor* T,!rgraph: The closing week has
been one of lively interact in the way of legal
mutters. The new Judge, ex-Provisional Gov
ernor Junes Johnson, of Columlius, snecessor
of Hon. E. Worrill, of this place, has acqnitfed
himself with credit, in the discharge of his offi
cial duties to the people and the har. Business
has hern dispatched rapidly in clearing the old
docket, ami, altogether, the rcsnlt of the week's
session has Seen satisfactory. Judgo Johnson
is a man of no ordinary ability, possessing in an
eminent degree decision of character united
with determined energy. Aside from his politi
cal status, he is a man of fine ability, command
ing person, and splendid knowledge of the law.
He doesn't appear to be a very bad Radical,
either.
In respect to the lmr, 1 must say it was un
usually brilliant this session. General Ramsey,
L. T. Downing, Colonel Smith and Joseph Pott,
of Columbus. Mark Blanferd, of Buena Vista,
Colonel Wallace, of Butler, with many others,
were present. Of the Tslbotton bar, W. A.
Little, 1! Hill, William Willis, were prominent.
I would include in this number, oar noble and
eminent jurist ex-Judge E. H. Worrill, than
whom no purer administrator of the laws ever
officiated in Georgia. In this estimation of his
past services. 1 rejoico to see upon tho resnmp-
tion of the practis. the r.,mitre has b. stowed
upon him h most liberal sh iro of business.
It is now certain the crop will fall short from
one-third to one-half in Talbot eotinty. Very
few plantations, comparatively, will exceed a
half crop. Thu drought in July nearly mined
portions of the valley.

I learn it will lake ten

tivone-s and staple. Tho Moina, so fur, is nn-
h or passed. The Peeler comes next.
Both of tin so cottons, in my opinion, are
superior to the Dixon. The quality of tho
staple is almost equal to Sea island, besides
being prolitio in benring. Mr. James Marshall,
of this county, lina ft number of ftcrcs of Moina,
very tine ; nnd last year wbb offered ten cents a
ponnd nioro for this variety than tho ordinary
staple. lie has the largest core, too, I have
ovor seen. IIo prcsonlod mo two cars from tho
samo stall; that inonsnrod quite twelve inches in
length, with twelvo hundred and sixty grains to
the ear. He has n largo Hold of this corn ; but
not all donlilo oars. In the way of corn I will
mention tlu-ro is ft grout curiosity grown by onr
fellow citizen, Miranda Port, which beats pop.
cam, even, for productiveness. Ho plants
like broom corn, chops width of hoc, lenving
ono stalk, which yields a snug littlo oar to nrry
hill of corn.
It is gratifying to observe the improvements
now being made on Lo Vert Oollogo. It is be
ing repaired and overhauled generally. I learn
there aro quite seventy pupils in attendance
nnd a very largo school expected next session.
Hev. Ileury Mooro is President, nnd a nice gon-
lleman he is, combined with an elegant scholar.
