(Will EKE is perhaps no medical observation bet-
JL ter established, none more generally confirmed
|by the experience of the best physicians of all gets

ed colds, In a climate as variable us ours, where the
changes of the weather are frequently sudden arm
unexpected, it requires more care and attention
guard against thin subtle and dangerous enemy o(
life, than most people imagine, or are able am
willing to bestow. Hence the vast number u s pat
cents, afflicted with coughs, catarrhs, asthma*
consumptions, and other affections, and lienee tin
farrago of rational and absurd remedies, cried up
by the learned and illiserate. The many cases ol
the kind, fell nndef my observation ; the prepose
erous compositions of Inflaming drugs, which
are in vogue ; the disappointment I experienced in
practice from remedies highly recommended , and
my own predisposition to pulmonic complaints,
were strong inducements for me to consider,
whether a compound consisting of mild vegetable
substances could not be invented, more tree front
the well founded objections of practitioners, am 1
