llOi^Unnr. JuFl. In the Northern States, fuel is an expen sive article, not only to the Farmer, but to those who live in villages ami towns. To the Fanner, however, this article is usually the most expensive; as, on account of his not duly estimating the expense he incurs for fuel, he is in the habit ol using it in pro fusion ; generally consuming, together with wh.it he sutlers to be wasted, twice or three times the quantity really requisite for the use of a family. In felling the trees, they should be cutoff as near (lie ground as possible, by which mean- U‘SH«wood will bis suffered to go to waste in the slump; and, the small limbs should be carried heme, cut up, and laid under the wnodhouse to dry; as a few of these, when dried, will often answer as well to boil a lea k- ttlc, or pot, as where larger wood in greater quantities, is used for the purpose. AH decayed and rotting wood should also be brought home; for this, when dried under the woodhouse, will answer very wi li lor luel. ■Vo id should always be dried before it is used ; for, although when dried it will not Pi. q iite s<> long, in burning, as when green; yet, one half of the, quantity at a time, will give more heat, and at the same time make a unic i pleasanter fire. There can be no: doob' jhai, generally speaking, any given quantity of dry wood, whileconsuming, will impart any given degree of heal, for as much as one fourth, and, with some kinds of wood perhaps even two thirds, of the time longer, than the same quantity of green wood ; of course, a proportionate saving may be made in the use of the former, in preference to the latter. 5 bun. ■:U • , . ■ (;)•• w r • , 1 v i • • ui :' : ( -i\ .11 ■ • ;1- iCU I , I . . Two years ago my neighbor cut them , down and supplied their places with some i valuable fruit trees, which probably in a few years will be both ornamental and profitable. ■ Now I would . uggest the idea whether it would not be better, and tend more to a general improvement to pay more attention to the propagation of fruit trees, and less to the cultivation of those which are not only unfruitful, but evidently destructive and in jurious to the growth of every kind of vege tation that may happen to be near them.
