A letter from a member of Congress to a
mo-chant in Philadelphia, states that they
are all alive to the subject of the unjustifia
ble spoliations of France, and anxious, as
far as is within their power to afford relief.—
It is time, says says the writer, “ that, the
French Government should know, pet the
remonstrances ol an American minister are
qpt to b* treated with silence and contempt,
and that however late it may be, we are re
solved to obtain redress for the distinguish
ed -war, which, under (he Napoleon Dyn
asty, has been levelled 'against us. To e
vince more fully, the sentiment of the na
tion upon this important subject, I would
recommend the immediate prese fitment'of
strong memorials of Congress.”

From Curacoa —By the Sarah at New-
York, Curacoa papers of the tenth of No
vember have been received. The cities and
towns of Peru have manifested the warm
est gratitude to the Liberator. One ball'of
the Colombia army was preparing to return
to Colombia forthwith.
The papers state that Radii, the Governor
of Calloa, abandoning his former pride, has
thought fit to treat with General Salom re
specting the terms’uu which the place shall
be surrendered.

A violent shock of an caathquake, was

when the place was nearly destroyed.
Jl new Speculation. —A considerable de
mand for merino sheep recently existed in
the southern part of this state, which affor- j
Jed another opportunity to the wooden nut
meg gentry to impose' on the credulity of
some of our citizens. A large number of
English sheep were prepared for the pur
pose. by clipping (he ends of the wool, ap
plying a hot iron to that portion remaining
m the sheep, in order to crisp it, and finally
applying a composition of grease, tar, and f
lampblack, in order to give the smokv and
greasy appearance ot merino wool. 'Thus
accoutred, these sheep were prepared for
market, and have been sold, it. is said, to a .
considerable extent, as genuine merino's.

advised to send their orders forward eaily.
