The Examination of the Irish-Ameri
oan Prisoners.
“Tbe examination now in progress of the
Fenian prisoners at Queenstown, who are
in come sort the moat interesting of those
arrested up to the preseut time, does not
promine to furnish much more serious in
formation than has been gleaned from the
great army of “ tinkers, tailors, apotheca
ries, plow hoys’’—the two professions omit
ted from the popular definition do not furn
ish many the Brotherhood
—who have been exummed and committed
in Dublin. Colonel O’Riordan, Captain
McAfferty, and the Irish-American plot
ters belong principally to the projected staff
of the future republican army, the prison
ers here to its rank and file, I suppose.
“Yet the revelations at Queenstown, so
far as they have already gone, although
some novelty was expected from them,
have proved a case of ridiculxu mus —the
same commonplace record of pettifogging
treason—unless wo relate the terrific story
told by the informer of how tho bishop was
to be roasted, and other dreadful deeds
done, as true as Gospel. lam bound to
nay those assertions sound to me as very
effective for their purpose, but just a shade
like, let us say—not the creatious, but the
exaggerations of a vulgar mind. Their
terrible import seems lessened by their like
ness to what would be required to spice an
approver’s information. However, Mr.
O'kiordoo and Mr. M’Afferty have been
committed, and I suppose the others will
be disposed of for the present in like man
ner.
“This morning the Lower Castle yard was
again matir with Feaian prisoners. I cannot
