[FOR THE JOURNAL AND MESSENGER.]
To Miss W*******
BY NIRRO.
The blush of the morn, at the peep of the dawn,
Enrobes with Its beauty the dew-spangled rose,
Beauty so rare cannot compare
With the bloom of thy lips, and the pearls they
enclose.
The sun at mid-day, effulgent and gay,
Bathes In glory and splendor, the landscape ufar;
Glories soon fade, languish In shade
Near thee, my enchantress, for thou art my star.
The gems of the night, so sparkling and bright,
BThe jewels of Heaven, that dance on the sea.
Bright as their beam, soft as their gleam.
Thy smiles are far brighter and dearer to me.
The mocking bird’s song through the night long
Enchants all the grove with its sweet melody,
Charming its strain, futile and vain;
Thy gentle voice has more sweetness for me.
The pathway to fame, to wealth and a name,
1 he goal of the hero, the aim of the tree,
Potent their charm, valor to warm,
O’er me lose their spell unless shared by thee.
Thy captive I’ll be, nor sigh to be free.
To thee hound forever by love’s silken chain,
Not to deceive, dearest believe,
If severed young Cupid would bind me again.
In my thoughts I’m ever near thee ;
Truly, I am ever thine,
Love’s messenger my blessings hear thee
Oh! take me for thine and only thine.
Macon, May, 1866.

Another Decision on a Negro Ques
tion.
Messrs. Editors: At Upson Court this
j week, (Judge A. M. Speer presiding,) it
was held in an action of Trover for ne
groes. .
1. That while a mere wrong-doer could
not plead the death or destruction of the
l property, still a person bona flde contest
ing the title thereto might plead either.
And, therefore,
t 2. That the plaintiff was entitled to re
cover only the actual damages sustained—
i. e., the value the negroes would have
been to him up to tiie emancipation.
[Which, in this case, was found by the
jury to be almost nominal, as several of the
negroes were children.]

The Universal Remedy for Internal and
External Complaints.
At this period there are but few unacquainted
with the merits of the Pain Killer; but, while
some extol it as a linament, they know but little
of its power in easing pain when taken internally,
while others use it internally with great success,
hut are equally ignorant of its healing virtues
when applied externally. We therefore wish to
say to all that it is equally successful whether
used internally or externally, and its sale is uni
versal and immense. The demand from India
and other foreign countries is equal to the demand
at home, and it has become known in those far off
places by its merits—the proprietors have never
advertised it or been at any expense in its intro
duction ipto foreign lands.

CHARLES J. JENKINS,
apr22-60d Governor,
Notice to the Public.
In the jmr 184$, the writer embarked in the Drug
business in the city of Philadephia, and while thus en
gaged, made several experiments in regard to the meet
desirable mode of preparing Fluid Extracts. My ef
forts being successful—the articles being approved and
used by the Medical Faculty—l was desirous of plac
ing them before the public, bat hesitated for some time
belore concluding to resort to newtpaper advertising,
knowing of the prejudices that existed in the minds of
many against using advertised Medici™ or Nostrum*,
but through the advice of friends, sod those who bad
used them, this objection was overcome.
After 18 years exertions, commencing in a small
way, the popularity of my aiticles has extended to all
parts of the United States, and widely throughout for
eign’countricfv—and this in the face of much opposition.
Every means has been resorted to by unprincipled
dealers since their merit and success hare been known,
Such as rdvertising larger bottles at less price, censur
ing all other preparations, snd even copying my ad
vertisements—but lam happy to state that out ol trie
many who bare resorted to this, none have been suc
cessful.
My Object
in this notice is to make facts known to the public and
respectable dealers, believing, after so many years’ex
ertiona, that the Druggists will discountenance such
proceedings, and that the reputation of my articles may
not be damaged by the use of inferior or spurious ODes.
Knowing that many may read this a-ticle who are
unacquainted with me, I append a few remarks from
those of my native city, whose names are known in all
parts of the world:
“Being personally acquainted with Mr. H. T. Helm
bcld, it affords me pleasure in stating I have been most
favorable impressed with his energy and integrity,
and gratified at his success.”
WM. WEIGHTMAN,
Firm of Powers A Weightman,
Ninth and Brown streets, Philadelphia
(Keening Bulletin, Philidelphia.)
When on a visit to the city of New York a few days
aiuce, we was induced to call on our old friend aud
townsman, Mr. H. T. Helmbold, Druggist, 594 Broad
way, N. Y. His store is a Model —a perfect Gem—the
baml-omest ot any kind we have ever had the pleasure
of viewing, and so extensive, being 34 feet front, five
stories in height, and over 200 feet deep. It indeed af
fords us much pleasure to know that he has been so
successful, and it is ample evidence of the merits of
hi* articles—as in our wbolo business experience we
have not known of the success of aoy articles without
merit—advertising merely bringing the name belore
the people.
(Boston Herald.')
“We do not like to 'advertise worthless wares, or
articles calculated to deceive our readers; and when
we see an advertiser like Mr. Helmbold, whom we
have known for years, gradually extend his advertising
from year to vear until be becomes the largest adver
tiser in the Uuiieil Slates, we are satisfied that the
statements in regard to bis articles, must be correct.
The writer reluctantly inserts the above, and would
not do so were be not a stranger to many; and con
cludes by slating the names of his articles, and the
diseases for which they have been used by many thou
sands with complete success.
