Remarks. Friday, April 20. 1866. The continued fluctuations in the gold market in New York have entirely defeated regularity in the rates of Exchange here this week. Sight on New York has sold at prices from* to discount. For Sterling the general offering prices have been 28 to 29 per cent, premium; for bills with the bills lading clean A No. 1 bills, 30. Cotton.—The demand during the past week has been very good, but there has been very little offer ing. Considerable quantities continue to come in from the interior, #ut it is chiefly forwarded. To-day we quote the market for Uplands quiet, at the follow ing prices: Ordinary Nominal. Low Middling • • 32@32)a Middling 33 @33 Strict to Good Middling 33>a@34}£ Sea Island.—The market for Sea Islands is dull, thex-e being no demand except for the best grades, which may be quoted as ranging principally from 70c to SI lb. The receipts since April 12 have been 6,757 bales of Upland and 93 Sea Island. The exports during the same period have been 3,535 bales Upland and 5 Sea Island, leaving on hand and on shipboard, not cleared, a stock of 20,690 bales Upland, and 971 bales Sea Island. COTTON STATEMENT. 1866-06. for it is very limited, sad shippers are sending it to northern markets, where they can find a better sale. The price, however, remains about the same, although with a downward tendency, and we quote at $1 25@ Shot.—^We quote Drop Shot at $3, and Bpck at $3 25 per bag. StTGAB.—We quote Muscovado at 13@14e; C yellow at 15y % c; B Boffee 16>i@17, Soap—The market is abundantly supplied, and the demand for the home trade continue* moderate. Prices remain unchanged. We quote Colgate A Hull’s family brands at 15c ^ lb; Moody A Barrett’s Savannah steam made at 14@15)gC $1 lb. Graham & Brown’s family soap at 12*£c. Teas—The stock on hand is large, and the market is dull. There has been no change id prices, but owing to the prices at the north having fallen there is a downward tendency. .We quote niglish break-' fast at $1 25@1 50; Oolong at $1@1 30; ’Hyson at $1 40 @1 60; and Imperial at $140@1 60. Timber.—No change is noted in Timber. The mar ket is very dull without being quotably lower. Wool—The market continues scarce^ but the de- marid is good. Prices are still declining, and we quote at 23c lb. Whiskey.—There is nothing doing in liquors, owing to the new local taxes. We continue our last quota tions: Thos. J. Bacon—The stock on hand continues adequate to the demand, with buf little change in the market. Sides are quoted at 17@18>^c; Shoulders, 14@16c; Hams are scarce and quoted at 22@2oc. Bagging.—The market is quiet, with sales of Dun dee at 32@33c; Gunny 27@30c. Rope 19@20c. Butter.—There is a good demand an^ prices have advanced. We quote Prime Goshen at 65c; Good State and Western 55(g) 61. Biscuit—The market continues well supplied, but the demand moderate. We have no change to note in prices, and quote soda biscuit at 12c; sugar at 15c; but ter at 12c; lemon, in boxes, 20c; in bbls 18c; Boston 13c. Coffee.—The market is fully supplied, and prices are scarcely maintained. We quote Rio at 2G@2.8c; St. Domingo, 24@27c; and Java at-42@45c. Candles—The supply on hand is good, but the de mand only moderate. We quote Adamantine at 25@ 28c.; Hull’s 25@27c & ft. Coal—The coal market is dull and prices have a down ward tendency. We quote all grades from $12 50 to $13 50, at retail; at wholesale, $9 50@$10. Corn.—The -stock on hand continues light, and a good demand prevails. We quote white Com at $1 05 @1 20; yellow* $1 10@1 15. Domestics.— Osnaburgs are scarce and in demand at 30c for white and 37>* for striped. Yarns $2 43@ $2 50 per bal®. Fruit.—The market is well' stocked. Oranges are selling at $7 50 per box, and Lemons at $5 50. Gunpowder.—Prices are lower, and we quote the best brands at $9 50@$10. Hay. The stock on hand is not large, but mors than equal to the demand. We quote Eastern at $2; Northern $1 50@$1 CO. Hides—Continue scarce, and the demand fair. We quote dry salted at 8^@9c. ' ^ Lard.—Therri has been but little change since last week. We quote Western kettle-rendered av 19@20c; Leaf Lard 22>*@23c. Lumber—Is lower, owing to the light demand, and mills are taking contracts at lrom 25 to 35. Mackerel.—The demand is good. W T e quoto No. 1, in half bbls, $10 25@10 60; No. 2, $9 50@$9 75; No. 3, $8 75@$9. In kits, No. 1, $2 75; No. 2, $2 50. Molasses.—The market is unchanged. The de mand is moderate. We quote Clayed Molasses at 46c; Muscovado, 50c in hhds, and 55 in tierces. Oats—Are selling at 80@85c; Bran $1 80@$1 90 per sack. Oil Cake—The market continues dull, with hut small sides, at $5 100 lbs. Onions.—^The market continues well supplied, with but moderate demand. Prices are unchanged, and we quote from store at $3@$3 25 bbl. Oils.—The market is dull, with but few sales. The stock is good and prices remain firm. We quote lin seed at $1 60@$1 80 per gallon; whale at $1 95@ $2; sperm at $2 80@$3 10: neatsfoot at $2 36; lard at $2 30@$2 50; kerosene at 95c@$l; train at $1 75, spirits turpentine, $1 60@$2. Pork.—The market is well supplied and the demand continues good. We quote family pig at $21 ^ y z bbl. Potatoes.—The stock on hand is of an inferior quality, and the demand is light. We qtrote at from $4@$6, for a good quality of eating potatoes. Raisins.—The stock on bond is good, hut the de mand continues moderate. We quote new crop in whole boxes at $5 00@$5 25; half do., $2 75; quar ters, $1 25@$1 75. Rice.—There is but very little in the market and that of an inferior quality.
