Ilf general. —Tbs New York Tribune says that the taxes in this country are heavier than are or ever were borne by any other thirty milllona of peoplo on earth. Adding our State and municipal to our National taxes, they amount to not a cent less then $20 each, per annum, for the whole American people. —A musical discovery of singular interest, it said, has just been made in Germany, nothing less than a hitherto unknown opera of Mozart, “II Desperado,” in three acts. Mozart composed the opera in his eighteenth year (1774) for the theatre of Munich. —The annual "Lady Godiva procesaion,” which has always taken place in commemoration of the tradition which Tennyson has Immortalised, will probably be so far modified tnis year as to have the representative Godiva dressed in the costume of the period. —The Hamagia, a Hebrew paper published at Lyek, in the province of Eastern Prussia, aays that sixty Jewish families have determined to form a colony near Jeffa, in Palestine. —A bill for the construction of an air-line railroad from Washington to New York will soon be reported in Congress. —The restaurant and oyster saloon keepers in Bos ton have been notified to stop selling ale at their counters. —A young lady of California recently broke her neck while resisting an attempt of a young man to kiss bar.
