Mayor’s Court.—The case of E. Bolding (colored),
sieged with assaulting a policeman, was discharged,
ji,- Honor stating that the transaction which brought
r . the difficulty was entirely outside the line of duty
-j the policeman bringing the complaint.
A white n.an charged with habitual drunkenness
jail ill treatment of his better half was fined in costs
.lid ordered to he placed under bonds for his future
pood conduct.
A policeman charged wiih disobeying orders in
1. ,vlug the guard linuso without permission, and with
. mg to the Chief of Police, was fined $10 and dis
missed the force. The policeman, it appears, had
applied at the gate for permission to pass out,
and on being refused scaled the wall. Ho
was met on the street by the Chief of Police,
tnd when questioned U3 to his being away from
the guard house stated that ho was just going to
report; that some membor of his family hail been sick.
On being further questioned he stated that ho had
already reported and camo by the sentinel at the (’ate.
ip. was immediately taken back and confronted with
the sentinel, who denied that he had passed out, and
the Chief of Police being convinced himself that no
- .-tv could pass nut at the gate without being seen by
sentinel, caused his arrest and final disposition as
rThe alarm of fire about eleven o’clock on

AN amusing Scene.—On Saturday last, as the
f‘ an . hip Missouri was about leaving her wharf, sev-
i-al prisons who desired to take passage in her ar-
r.vea :n the wharf after the fang-plank had been re-
1 uml the steamer's bow turned into tho stream,
.til ’ : eager to get aboard lines were thrown over
the sh’A/s side, to which valises and trunks were
AFcned and hauled up. after which the owners were
urved likewise. As eacli one reached the deck a
it greeted him. One of them who had a large
1 black bottle in his pocket was the last to attempt
ih- feat, and when about half way up, found that his
medicine was slipping from his pocket, and in trying
: save ii came near losing his hold. Several by
standers were helping him to get aboard, but did not
take care the B,” which fell on tho dock and of course
ras spilled. Our reporter being in the vicinity got a
smell of the contents and thinks he has smelt that
same medicine before.
We learn from a gentleman from Telfair county,
who arrived in town on Saturday, the particulara of a
bloody afiray between two young men, natives and
residents of Montgomery, which resulted in the death
of both the combatants. The (acts as related to ns are
as follows:
Alfred Morris and Seaborn Hall, acquaintances and
friends from boyhood, met at Bell's Ferry, on the
Oconee River, on Sunday the 29th ult. In the con
versation tghich followed reference was made to some
recent occurrence, and a dispute arose between them
on some question of fset. High words were had, and
the lie having been given, young Morris drew s knife
and closing with Hall inflicted upon him a deadly blow
under the fifth rib. Levi Hall, the brother of the
wounded man, ran up to separate the two, but waa
just too late. His brother fell into his arms crying
out, “I am killed! ” Levi immediately drew his pistol
and firing upon Morris killed him on the spot, the
bullet passing through his head.
Hall was carried to his home in a dying condition.
His wound was just beneath the heart, and the blood
flowed freely from his mouth. Although uot in
formed of his deaf, the gentleman who gives us this
account is certain that Hall could not have sur
vived.
The frightful tragedy had caused great feeting in the
neighboring counties and has cast a gloom over the
entire community. Both the parties were promising
young men and belonged to families accounted among
the best of Montgomery. The father of Morris, Hon.
Jno. A. Morris, has represented his district in the
Legislature for several terms.
Personal.—Ex-Governor Joseph E. Brown arrived
in tho city yesterday, and is stopping at the Screven
House.
Thanks.—Mr.| - John Mahoney, the courteous and
gentlemanly purser of the steamer Kate, will please
accept our thanks for favors. Mr. Mahoney, as usual,
never forgets the press, which has been greatly in
debted to hiui in former years, for late Havana aud
Key West papers furnished them while he was purser
on the steamship Isabel, which plied between those
ports and Charleston via Savanna^.
See Lippman’s advertisement, on first page, cf
Paris imported perfumery, soaps, fee. a23tml3.
Insurance.—Astonishing as it may appear, over one
million dollars of premiums on insurance risks was
remitted to the North during the last twelvemonths.
This will no doubt account for tho efforts being made
to place tho Savannah Insurance Companies on a
sound basis, and thus command the confidence of the
people. Wo are glad to know that the Oglethorpe In
surance Company is moving in tho matter aud are
now in a condition to pay risks promptly, and take
them at as low rates as any in the city. Their stock
holders embrace some ol' the best merchauts in the
State, and we will guarantee the business will be well
managed. We commend this company to the consid
eration of our readers.

And is universally considered
For purifying the blood, removing all chronic constitu
tional diseases arising from an impure state of tha
blood, and the only reliable and eflbctual known
remedy for the cure of Scrofula, Scald Head, Salt Rheom,
Pains and Swellings of the Bones, Ulceration of the
Throat and Legs, Blotches, Pimples off the Face, Tetter
Erysipelas, and all scaly eruptions of the skin.
AND BEAUTIFYING THE COMPLEXION.
Not a few of the worst disorders that affect mankind
arise from the corruption that accumulates In the blood.
Of all the discoveries that have been made to purge it
out, none can equal in effect HELMBOLD’S COMPOUND
EXTRACT OF SARSAPARILLA. It cleanses and reno
vates the blood, Instils the vigor of health into the
system, and purges out the humors which make dis
ease. It stimulates the healthy functions of the body
and expels tho disorders that grow and rankle In the’
blood. Such a remedy that could be relied on, has
long beon sought for, and now, for the first thne, the
public hare one on which they can depend. Our space
here does not admit of certificates to show Its effects,
bat the trial of a single bottle will show the sick that It
has virtues surpassing anything they have ever taken.
Two tablcspoonful of the Extract of Sarsaparilla added
to a pint of water is equal to the Lisbon Diet Drink, and
one bottle is fully equal to a gallon of tho Syrap of Sar
saparilla, or tho decoction as usually made.
THESE EXTRACTS HATE BEEN ADMITTED TO
USE IN THE UNITED STATES ARMY, and are also la
very general use in all the State HOSPITALS and PUB-
