Savannah Bteam Bakery.—At the request of a
friend now on a visit to our city, we yesterday.accom
panied him to the Savannah Steam Bakery of Messrs*
Lewis K. Smith & Co., on Bay Street, between Aber-
co rn aud Lincoln. The establishment occupies throe
urge stores, formerly warehouses. The first store on
the east contains the engine for the propelling of the
< itHisive machinery requisite for a manufactory of
.bis kind. It also contains the ovens, three in num
ber, which are continually kept in use. The second
itore is occupied as a store as well as a drying room.
The third store, which is also occupied as a store room,
wo were informed will be put to some other use short
ly. by the establishing by the company of another kind
of business. The engine of the bakery to furnish the
p.>wer of the machinery as here also. The company also
contemplate cisablishiug in ilie fall, a reel oven which,
when completed, will do as much work as the three
jvennow used. Tho engine was built by Mr.
John McCollum, and the ovens by Cassidy,
A Brooklyn, New York, and are capable of
w.-rking up as many as thirty barrels of flour iu a day.
The workmen are all from first class bakeries in tho
N <rtli, and are competent to make the finest kind and
quality of biscuit, of any description, from a lemon or
«iiiit r snap up to pilot bread. The company having
:aadu a large expenditure in fitting up this establish-
nicnt. which is as large as.any smith of Baltimore, and
tL' a prices being as low as those of Now York, mei-
vibULts from the interior and others desiring topur-
,-ua-v. wv.nki do well to give them a call or send their
nit lor any kind of biscuit needed, thus getting
t ti*m ir« li from the ovens, besides save the delay as

day, wu eauaad by tha burning of tba looaa cotton on
ths Florida Steamboat Company's wharf, whsrs the
fire occurred Tuesday last. Several persons were en
gaged in removing the cotton from the wharf, and in
upturning it, discovered it on lire in severs! places,
and gave the alarm. The fire companies responded
promptly to the alarm, and being soon on the ground,
succeeded in a very short time iu extinguishing the
fire.
Steamship Gin. Barnes.—This steamship was
brought to Savannah on this trip by Capt. George W.
Walker, late commander of the steamship Raleigh*
It is needless to say Capt. Walker’s hots of friends in
this city were glad lo greet him once more in com
mand of the finest and fastest steamship running to
this port. The long-standing popularity of Capt.
Walker with the travelling public wiU doubtless swell
the list of passengers by the Gen. Barnes on Saturday
next. __
Tut Panorama of Paradise Lost.—Another
crowded audience was gathered at the Theatre last
evening to witness the uurolling of the splendid pano
ramic views, illustrating the great epic poem of the
language. The verdict of the audiencs was unani
mously the same as on the previous evening, that the
panorama is unsurpassed in magnificence of concept
tion and excellence of artistic execution.
Salm of Damaged Cotton.—Mr. Abram Minis sold
at auction yesterday morning on the Florida Steam-
bos' wharf, 80 bales of cotton, more or less, damaged
by the fire on Tuesday last, for $2,500.
Quick Trip.—The steamer Two Boys, Capt. Daniels,
left Augusta at four o’clock yesterday morning, stop
ped at All the way landings, and arrived here about 10
o’clock last night. This is one of the quickest trips
ever made between Augusta and this city.
Superior Court.—The case of the State vs John B.
Knight, charged with being a common cheat and
swindler, was tried before the Superior Court yester
day. The jury rendered a verdict of guilty.

Savtmiftli Market.
W«D!i*n>AY, May 23, 1866.
Cotton—There is very little offering and bnt few
transactions. We hear of sales of middling being
made within the past few days at prices ranging from
34<j$36 cents, which is about a fair quotation for mid
dling, of New York classification.
Atlanta Market.
•Atlanta, May 2*2, 1866.
koaines* opened yesterday morning with a lively
demand for wite corn at $.1 40, which may now be re
ported as emphatically scarce. Our merchants haul
large orders to fill both for white and yellow, but were
unable to respond. For some time previous to the in
terruption in transportation (which, by the way, we
are authorized to remark, will not continue beyond
to-day), the receipts of grain were light, and the’mar
ket had become in eagerly supplied. Large shipment*
are daily expected, and hence the present inflation
cannot last long. Yellow or mixed may be quoted
at $1 30^1 35, and very scarce and stiff at those
figures. An inferior article may"be purchased at lower
figures.
Bacon has a alight upward tendency; wijJi only a
moderate supply on the market. Demand good.
Flour continues firm at our quotations. Supply
about equal to the demand. '
Money—From our quotations it will be seen that
gold and silver have each advanced one cent, though
the market is quiet. A better feeling exists m bank
bills, which now are freely offering.
Avgusta Market.
♦ Augusta, May 22—P. M.
Cotton—The market has been very unchanged to
day, with a good demami, and not much disposition to
sell. A few sales were made at prieea ranging from
32 to 35c. Fine cotton will bring 36c.
