The first sales Were at 14iq. The market subsequently returned to 139ij, the price ot' last night, and finally closed at 140 per cant. Fxobange on London, 60 days’ sight, was ne glected, but a fair business waa done on eight, and three days’ sight at llOMfper cent., the Continental rotes being conformed' to tbi* quotation. There will probably be further ehipments of gold to the amount of nearly $10,000,000 before the response Is known hare to the first great shipments of last week, unless the news by the steamers due on Monday morning should be unexpectedly favorable. Opinions are much divided at present as to the probable nature of the advices, financial as well as political. Tha sharp turn in the money market, resulting, a few days since, from the heavy settlements for gold at the Treasury Office, ran Itself out, as we auppposed it would, to-day, after these settlements had been com pleted. The rate for money to the brokers continued at 7 per cent, until about two o'clock, when it was found that considerable balance* were likely to be left unemployed, end a number of lenders were reedy to accept 6 per cent. This figure will, probably, be the rule of the street for the next week, es very heavy cur rency disbursements from the Treasury Office are in prospect . . NEW YORK MARKET. Nxw Yoke, May 25.
