tigea were disposed of, after which the Court was ad
iourned until Tuesday morning at ten o’clock.
State vs. .John E. Hayes—Indictment for libel—
Three cases. These cases were called, and the de-
‘ fendant failing to appear to defend, his bonds were es
treated. and an order taken for scire facias to issue
against the surflties. ■«

murder, was continued under the following affidavit,
submitted by the prisoner through his counsel:

nude fur the purpose of delay, but that justice may
be done in his case, and that he expects to prove, by
tins witness, that the pistol was accidentally die-
charged, with no intention of deponent to commit the
amie with which he is charged.

Thursday Evening} June 7.
Cotton.—The market is firm. Tthere was a little
inquiry this morning for good cotton, but no demand
whatever for inferior grades. We quote middling 30,
strict middling 31, good middling 32c.
Gold.—Brokers are buying at 140 and selling for
144al45.
Silver.—Buying rates 133&135, and selling at 140.
Bonds.—There is a good demand for Georgia Rail
road at par, and for city bonds at 90c.

Mayor's Court.— Herman Schultzer, charged with
being a vagrant, was turned over to a friend who ap
peared and said that he would provide for him.
A young man, charged with being drunk and lying
in the street, in answer as to what he had to say,
stated that ho was beastly drunk; and tried to laugh
the matter off. His Honor stated that a >oung man of
such respectable appearance should not treat tha t
matter so lightly. The young man said he might as
well laugh as cry, whereupon he was fined five dollars
aud costs.
Jacob Green, improper conduct, drunk and disor
derly in the streets: also disorderly at the police bar
racks. The engineer on the steamer to which the
prisoner was attached as fireman, came forward and
testified to his former good conduct, and as this was
ins first offence, hoped the Mayor would be lenient,
which he was, by imposing a fine of only three dollars.
Catharine Rogers, charged with being under the in
fluence ot liquor and lying in the streets, was ordered
to be locked up until sun-down.
Nobles, colored, charged with stealing a half box of
tobacco from the steamer Kate. A white man who
testified against the prisoner pointed him out as the
•‘gentleman" who had committed the theft. The
Major informed the witness that, gentleman did not
steal, and sentenced the darkey to the chain gang for
thirty days.
Frank Middleton, colored, charged with being a
suspicious character, was found loitering under the
covered wav_l ending into the stores, on the North side
ot Bay street, West of Barnard. The polieemau who
cukle the arrest stated that he heard a noise as if some
one was trying to force a door, and when he went to
the locality from whence the noise proceeded,discover
ed the negro and arrested him. The prisoner made a
statement which was so foreign from the subject un
der e msideration that he was sentenced to the chain
gang for thirty days.
Edward Williams, colored, charged with violating
ordinance in selling whiskey in the Market without a
license, was fined in costs and ordered to take out a
license ... - J A ; • . *
Excursion to Thun dekbolt.—On the llth, at three
o’clock, an excursion party is to leave Savannah for
Thunderbolt, from Charleston wharf, on the steamer
Pilot Boy. The tickets are only one dollar, and the
excursionists will secure a fine river trip, pure sea air,
and ail the advantages to health which sbeh excur
sus always give. Arrangements have been made on
the boat and at Thunderbolt for the accommodation of
& tfie guests, and the indications are that a large
party will go down.
Rape. -The case brought before Justice Levi S
fon against a young man for the crime of rape waa
duly entertained. The Justice required the defendant
to give bond in the sum of $5,000 for his appearance
before the Superior Court, to answer to the charge of
rape or seduction. The bond required was given.

nounced to leave for Florida to-day, having been una
voidably detained in Baltimore, will not be in readi
ness to resume her place on the Florida line until
